DJ duo mixing balkan, gypsy and folk club sounds with mountain fresh decorations and visuals.
DJ duo Wonderlust, also known as DJs Speedy and Salama, consists of two friends and visual artists based in Helsinki, Finland. They share enthusiasm for same kind of music; tunes having influences of Balkan and Eastern European folk and gypsy music traditions, may the music be traditional or pop, old or contemporary, rural or urban. They have collected a big part of their set while traveling in eastern parts of Europe. This way they got familiar with the local styles of popular music, which often include variations of folk and gipsy music traditions.
The core of the DJ practice is their own intuitive interpretation of the music and atmosphere they really love and appreciate. They want to create situations where people might share the fun and warmth of what they find a great way of collective celebration.
All started from the joy of playing and sharing this music with people and in the beginning the duo played mostly in parties and art-connected happenings. While enjoying what they did the duo started to enlarge their DJ practice to play in clubs and festivals and nowadays they also make visuals and decorations as a part of their set. In the deco part of the practice they also combine folk and contemporary elements.
On the gigs the duo appears in costumes and uses decorations connected to the atmosphere they are inspired by. On some occasions they also perform themselves; the setting includes dance choreographies and singing. The sound set includes music e.g. from Romania, Bulgaria, Former Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Ukraine, U.S., Turkey and different parts of Russia as far as Caucasus in the border of Europe and Asia. Since 2005 DJ duo Wonderlust has performed in Finland, Holland, Italy and U.S..
