Besides producing and djing the CA north valley’s only techno/minimal/house party with Future/Now partner Anna Talbott, he runs the community website blog 530Techno.org. He also co-runs a VJ Source visuals label Dandelion Collective with TopherZ, is a web applications developer, a husband & father of 2, and recently finished building an octagon strawbale house. Finally, he has found the time to sit down and focus on producing his own music.
Six years of djing and producing parties with friend Anna Talbott and Sean Micheal Yoder (aka The_abstract_terrorist) have provided him with a solid knowledge for what works on the dance floor and what doesn’t. Symbio’s own dj sets pull from every genre of danceable music. Early sets mix old school electro, new wave, SF ambient, indie dance & bmore breaks. While his late night sets venture into heavy doses of crunk laden tech-house, acid, minimal techno and deep house. He has played along side such reknowned artists as Liilyanne, Kid Kameleon, Jason Short & Ripley. His own productions build on a solid 4/4 tech house foundation giving way to a unique mixture of weird polyrhythmic insectoid noises, bouncing sub bass and organic tribal textures.
Inspired by pioneers, New Order, Skinny Puppy, Meat Beat Manifesto, Autechre, The Orb, Basic Channel and Aphex Twin, as well as the new breed of techno coming from SF labels Blipswitch Digital, Dirtybird, Mothership and Auralism, Symbio strives to create fresh dance floor fillers that fuse field recordings and found sounds with psychedelic noises and the latest in synth technology.
“I am inspired by new and fresh sounds.” says Symbio “This is what drew me to this type of music in the first place. I am not really interested in filling an existing niche or fitting into a singular style with my music. I want to keep experimenting, pushing the music in new directions, taking risks and having fun.”
His debut release on Blipswitch Digital, “The Gasps & Fissures Parade” incorporates original oboe, English horn, suona and mijwiz work from improv noise musician/composer, Kyle Bruckmann (www.kylebruckmann.com). “Kyle’s music was actually one of the main catalysts for me to start producing. Some of the sounds he makes are so strange and otherworldly I just had to get them on the dance floor!”
