VA's Finest | Konkrete Jungle Virginia | WestRom MediA | OutLook Sk8boards | 3D Productions | BoP Records | Cornerbag CreW | Plate TechToniks "I came from the bottom where everyone was two faced. My name ain't the same thing now, jockin on my style. Poised is apointed as the king of the jungle. Step up and start a rumble get this mother fucker wild. They fuckin' buy my tracks and drag my name through gutters and pimpin to hold me down and they're claimin that their my brothers. Dude fuck that noise my boys know where the line is. The past 5 years steady reppin' the Va's Finest. Call me the Hennessey I'm skripz the king of wildest my flavors contagious like VA's Finest style is. I've been through the death wish homie so wreckless try for perfection to make this connection. Kickin n' screamin n' killin n' willin and doin it all for next to none and doesn't it feel a bit more real when your doin it all just for fun. We'll cut it down and we'll laugh showing no mercy. Now hang your head low and bow down to ContrAversy. poised as appointed as the king of the jungle step up." Mike D.T.L. ContrAversy Legg walked through the gates of the EDM world in 1994. His life was transformed by the amazing sounds of DJ Icey and DJ Dan. These two all time greats were his first inspiration to become a DJ, but he did not pursue his musical talents until much later. Mike has over 16 years in the EDM scene granting him the nickname "Grandfather Rave" or "G-Father" because he quickly learned all the ins and outs of the scene and was brought up in this culture with strong roots in PLUR and the underground rave culture. He watched, listened, and learned as time went by, which continued to fuel his need to get involved even more. With each passing day his love and passion for Breaks and DnB grew stronger and was becoming an important and necessary element of his life. With values and morals based on beliefs like, Respect is EARNED, Promoters should work together to schedule event dates/times, and that we need to "bring back whats real", instead of following all of the superficiasl meanings of what this lifestyle is, Mike is a true raver. He sees this culture turning into more of a competition rather than being about the music and social gathering and is in a constant battle to bring back PLUR. Mike sacrifices many hours, days, and even weeks fighting a cause, a movement that was once something treasured. He struggles day in and day out to keep the volume up, cause "you cant hear the drama over the music". Mike hopes to further educate the new comers in this culture and teach them what it means to be a "raver" and that Electronic Dance Music is NOT about the drugs, its not about the commercial appearance, and that MUSIC IS THE LIFESTYLE meant to be an escape from the drama and the corruption of society rather than an infectious gateway. He's faced many obstacles along the way but always finds a way to prevail and is always trying to change things for the better. He gives more than he takes, stands up for what he believes, what he loves, is passionate about, Death before Dishonor, and leads by example proving to all that its all about the love of music. Mike's hard work and constant sacrifices of sleep, money, stress, and endless amounts of time have taken him far in this culture. Mike is now well known in the tri-state area as a DnB DJ with a unique grip on the genre and has a hard hitting style that is loved by many. He has spun at hundreds of events and can be seen at many others promoting and spreading his music and love to the masses. Growing up, as a child Mike played Nintendo with the games all having either 8 bit or 16 bit music where techno was spawned from. He listened to music like Lords of Acid, and Miami Bass DJ Majic Mike, which gave root to his natural progression in this culture. He never felt comfortable or normal in mainstream society. So naturally he fell in love with music that didn't judge, wasn't bias, and cultivated a new breed of people that followed a path of honesty, unconditional love and acceptance. He found that this new generation of "hippies" had genuine respect and were free of hate. They didn't judge or mistreat one another, and they welcomed all the misfits and embraced the uniting of like minded followers. He was fascinated and dreamed of becoming a promoter, learning how to break and liquid dance, and living a life filled with fun times, peacefulness, and living truly free. Through the years of networking and making friends, the thought of being more involved in the scene dwelled and grew. In 1996 Mike began attending and promoting for parties at venues like the Capital Ball Room/Nations, owned by Scott Henry. He was and still is to this day an enthusiastic hard working promoter. In the past he promoted mainly for BUZZ events like CBR- Friday night parties, the biggest parties on the east coast in its day. Mike has witnessed the effects of the Rave act being passed where anything like glow sticks and types of bracelets were considered "paraphernalia" and how the act changed promoting and hosting EDM events. He was a part of keeping the scene alive on the east coast when forces were trying to kill the scene as the act was viewed as a drug intervention. He is currently an avid promoter for VA's finest and all of the crews DJ's, Artist, events and also he promotes for 3D Productions events as well. Mike is well known for his promotion work through the years in DC, Virginia, and Baltimore and is very big in underground promotions as well. In 2004, Mike worked under Lonnie Fisher, owner of the infamous club named Sonar. Lonnie was also known to throw the biggest raves on the east coast since 1994, like Starscape, and Ultraworld parties. Mike Legg was a major promoter for the Saturday night weekly drum and bass party called Deuce, at Lonnie's club. He had become a huge asset to Sonar promotions because he was bringing in masses of people from all areas far and wide. During the nights he was not at Sonar, he was busy promoting in other clubs in the Washington D.C. and Baltimore area. His involvement as a promoter deeply rooted him with the people in the EDM culture. After some traumatic events that occurred in Mike Legg's life in November of 2004, he was taken away from the EDM scene for a short period of time. He used this period in his life to re-evaluate his productivity and involvement with his only true passion in life (electronic music). For a while, he was consumed with dancing and promoting and completely happy with where he was but that just wasn't enough! He wanted to do more, which finally drove him to begin his dj career. Mike found his place behind the tables in late 2005. Mike's skills only continued to increase as he let his love for music drive him back to his turntables day in and day out. He is a self proclaimed "break beat junky", that lives and breathes music 24/7, stating "It's the only thing today that helps me express who I am". His strong love for breaks soon developed into a need to take his skills to the highest level of mixing and complexities. This is where Drum and Bass started to take him to that next step. This newly found passion for two different sub genres of EDM music was not enough for him. He had to find more complex ways of expressing himself by working along side some of the best breaks and drum and bass DJ in Northern Virginia, which later brought together the group of DJs known as Va's Finest DnB and Breaks, which he managed and promoted. This took a great deal of his time leaving him with less focus on his DJ career. Together, this group of well defined DJs played many underground venues such as Some-R-Bandits, Transit, Strangeland, and tons of small raves/house parties. Mike has experienced many struggles in the past five years as a DnB DJ but is currently,(in early 2011) the most booked DnB DJ in a tri state area. He has made very many sacrifices to become what he has today. His exclusive rights to the use of beats and tracks produced by Frankie Bass along with his own unique style of mixing and hard hitting rhythm makes him stand out among the masses of many new and veteran local DJ's. He has accomplished what few have in this culture as a DJ, spinning along side of big names like Claw and Hulk, DJ Icey, and General Malice. He frequently headlines many shows throughout the year up and the east coast in clubs, renegades, and festivals. He has been a resident DJ for promo companies such as 3D and pulsar. Mike is a trusted member of the EDM community and has been given the opportunity to run stages at festivals like Big Dub Candy Mountain, where at the last second/the day the festival began, had to set up an entire stage, lights, sound, and book DJ's for a 24 hr line up. He has played on Expansion Broadcast's and Dirtbox's radio shows. He is seen as one of the hardest working member of the EDM scene and does alot of his own promotion. This man should be awarded the most promoted Dj in the tristate area. Releasing 9 mixes in 8 months. Taking the time to print and hand out thousands of CDs, Printing shirts for the crew, and plastering his DTL Contraversy stickers far and wide. In 2010 Mike made a huge jump in his DJ career and has acquired an undying amount of fans and devoted listeners. In 2010 mike surprised everyone when he released his dub step mix album The Hulk, this album showed many that Mike was capable of much more than already thought. His ability to take this music and tell a story with it and take them on a voyage and being able to captivate the audience and make them love the music as much as he does. Mike loves his fans and never forgets where he came from. He is always quick to lend a hand with an event and always jumps at the opportunity to be involved in an event. Today Mike Legg is solely focused on keeping the underground vibe and music of Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Drumstep and Breaks alive by "keeping it real and not selling out to the large group of untrue commercialized people that rob the true greatness and feeling of what this music is all about." His involvement in the culture and his career as a DJ has truly proven him to be a notable mark in the EDM world. He is ever growing and evolving to bigger and better things. There is a strong "ContrAversial" concept brewing, second by second, minute by minute, beat by beat, that this man may change the way people view this music.
