Mashup, or bastard pop, is a musical genre which, in its purest form, consists of the combination of the music from one song with the acappella from another. Typically, the music and vocals belong to completely different genres. At their best, bastard pop songs strive for musical epiphanies that add up to considerably more than the sum of their parts.

DJ Tikka runs That's My Jam with Trent, DJ's at the Rubin Museum, Hugs, Sputnik, and assorted venues across the city and Brooklyn. The mix includes music from all the different places she's lived starting from India to NJ to Oakland and now Brooklyn. She just started a six month residency at Sputnik called Wednesgayz.
Tikka Masala has been seen on stages, or rocking afterparties for with Toshi Reagon, Meshell N'Degeocello, Talib Kweli, DJ Premier, TV on the Radio, The Gossip, Murray Hill, and the list goes on. After 5 years of non-stop DJ-ing in the city and Brooklyn's hottest clubs, Tikka settled down to create That's My Jam, possibly Brooklyn's largest mixed queer dance party, with Trent Brooks.
She comes from a family of instrument builders in Kolkata, that's been building harmoniums since 1923, and studied Indian Classical Vocal from the age of 5 to 17.
