WXYC 89.3 FM and everyone I met there, house parties at 117 Green Street, life at 202-A Maple Avenue, Dave Tompkins and his incredibly music-filled brain, Saula and The Treehouse, the ladies who used to rent out Players, all of those 2000-01 Futureprimitive Soundsessions (what up SF!), Z-Trip, J.Rocc, A-Trak, Avalanches, Diplo/Hollertronix, The Rub, Caps & Jones, meeting Grandmaster Flash in 2004, Numark DJ equipment, the staff and clientele at Hell, my boy Stanley Richards, all other DJs who love doin' their thing.
I'm a former college radio jock (WXYC 89.3 FM), rock/noise drummer (Joby's Opinion, Groove Patrol, Bennoune, No Neck Blues Explosion), and fanzine writer/editor (Tuba Frenzy) who accidentally stumbled into "party DJing" while making all-over-the-map dance mixes for a bunch of crazy house parties that my housemates and I threw during the late 1990s.
Since 2000 I have DJed at numerous weddings, private parties, rock clubs, sit-down bars, an art gallery, etc. I have a really broad collection of music and can play to all sorts of different crowds and event types, but these days I am focusing most of my energy on party-oriented hip-hop-centric "club DJing". When there is a dancefloor to fill I tend to play a mix of old and new hip-hop peppered with everything from 80s hits to adventurous new-ish dance music of the non-techno variety.
Throughout 2006 you can catch me on the second Saturday of every month at DISCO INFERNO, the monthly dance party that takes place at the Chapel Hill bar HELL. I also recently put together "DISCO INFERNO - THE MIXTAPE!" - a pretty decent place to start if you are trying to learn more about my DJing style and/or the monthly Disco Inferno party. You can check out the mixtape tracklisting and ordering info at my website.
