This is where I tell you how hip, cool, and creative I am. Then I list you with some college degrees and awesome college awards. Here is where I drop all the names I possibly can of who I have played with even though eight times out of ten I payed to play with them. The most significant difference between New York City and Tampa Bay are the transportation systems. NYC has a government run system with train, subways, and busses, and Tampa Bay has a corporate system involving cars, cars, and more cars. Here in Tampa, if you want to get around you must have your own car. The bike thing simply won't work. Are you going to bike across Dale Mabry? How about Fowler or U.S. 19? And due to the fact that the area is so spread out walking is useless. But there is a bus system. However it isn't a very good one. You can commute to work across the Bay as long as you don't plan on coming home after dark. And to get from south St. Pete to any of the airports is an adventure involving multiple transfers, 2-3 hours of your time, and at least one 15 minute, required by law, bus driver break at Burger King.
Along with a costly car, comes good ole' wallet bustin' insurance. By now poor people like myself don't stand a chance. We are forced to drive a clunker like a '78 Gremlin and routinely let our insurance expire for not making the payments on time. And I haven't even mentioned gas yet. We don't have money for that. We never put in more than two dollars in at a time. And the $600 car repairs that happen every three months? Yeah those suck to. Has anyone ever seen a car repair cheaper then $600?
I wish everyone in the Tampa Bay area could see what a joy a government run transportation system is like. Living in NYC, I am no longer embarased that one headlight in my VW doesn't work. I don't have to be worried when the engine starts making that funny noise again. I don't have to sweat when it's time to pay that waping insurance bill. Now, I live in NYC. I can walk to get where I need to go. Or I can hop on the subway for $1.67 per ride. What a joy it is to live in New York City.
Is there any hope for the Tampa Bay area? Honestly, it doesn'
