Books
Possessing the Secret of Joy by Alice Walker is my fave. I like "juvenile fiction" so besides the obvious (Harry Potter) I LOVE the Gregor the Overlander series, Lemony Snicket, and the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. The Golden Compass is book one. Lately I'm into random vampire/zombie/succubus pulp, mostly Laurell K. Hamilton and Richelle Mead.
Heroes
Harriet Tubman and all of those brave enough to participate in the Underground Railroad. I also admire anyone who can break a cycle of abuse and violence, like my Mom did.

Who I'd like to meet: (in no particular order) Steven Sondheim, Alice Walker, John Malkovich, Barack Obama, Mandy Patinkin, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Tina Fey, Barbra Streisand, and, given a time machine I'd like to meet my parents when they were my age and Harriet Tubman.
My daughter keeps hitting the button of a doll that has the tune "Grandma got run over by a reindeer". All I ever think is "Mr. Walters got run over by a school bus"! Thought you would appreciate!
Danielle, I am deeply sympathetic over your loss. Your grandfather was extraordinary. I hope you and your family are finding comfort in each other and in his memory.
I know it's a hard time, but I hope that you were able to have some quiet and happiness on your birthday.
I saw it in person too! I took a picture of it! But that is not my picture. That one was taken by someone who actually knows how to operate a camera. ;P
