Having moved on to bigger better and brighter thingsDl Oakshott is no more. He can know be found amongst the love of Hull Indie/Folk Band The Nocturnal Flowers..... Who are a 3 piece Indie/Folk Band comprising of Paul Marshall Congas and percussion, Jennie Beasty, Violins/Guitar/Wind and Vocals, and Darren Oakshott, Acoustic Guitar/Harmonica/Vocals.Influences are far and wide.We love to play live, rehearse, write new material and watchfriends, other musicians and meeting people. We are fortunate to live in a city which is enriched with fueding politicians, a demised sea food industry and many fine musicians and bands we will always consider performing live, dependent upon the occaision. We are currently recording our debut album, Vault of Souls at the Shack Studios and host 4 songs taken from this album on The Nocturnal Flowers Mysoace page...Please go seek us out. If our timing goes to plan then we aim to have an album launch at Hulls Music HQ on March 7th 2007... the songs currently on Myspace are from DL Oakshotts album ...Welcome to The Wonderful World of Olanzapine...all songs recorded where done so in the first take..what you hear is what came out on the day..no retakes. The song Touch The Moon is about Depression and is a personal and touching tribute to Nick Drake who died young having suffering from depression. Vice girl is about the Hull prostitution scene, meeting, falling in love with and trying to rescue a prostitue and failing...miserably. The album is dark, sombre but is very relaxing and subjects some interesting topics and lyrics several songs being played on BBC Radio Raw Talent and Micheal Brothwell shows and airplay from further afield and cyberspaceThe Nocturnal Flowers actually perform several songs from this album which sound very different to what you hear from the CD ...Welcome to the..and the new sound to the songs is much acredited to the fine musicianship and vast experience provided from Jennie and Paul. The Noctunal Flowers are soon to record together for the first time and are also to feature some of the songs written by Jennie who truly has the voice of an Angel..she writes a fine song too. When Jennie sings people listen. Jennie is the master of harmonies. The Nocturnal Flowers offer something much less ordinary and are unique and do fine crafted original songs which hook and captivate one ears compelling the listener for furter acoustic experiences which may be termed as healthy flowery self indulgence self gratifacation fixation but thats alright. We will support you through this and allow it tobecome deep rooted until oyur hearts content....something about raw Emotion have a listen and conclude for yoursel. We are sure youli find some room in your lives for Hulls...... The Nocturnal Flowers Xx

Hi Guys,
How are you? I hope all is well!!!
What have you been up to?
Sorry I haven't been in touch for a wee while. I went to Holland on tour and have been busy recovering from a nasty dose of man flu.
Despite being laid up I have recorded many new songs, 4 of which you can hear on my myspace at the moment. I would love to hear what you think.
Peace,
Mark

Nocturnal Flowers are truly an original band. Guitar and vocals, tom toms and violin, mix that with sometimes dark subject matter lyrics, a good band worth checking out. And we will be there at the Tiger Inn in Beverley on Sat 23rd Dec.

Only 3 gigs left this year.......
....for Music HQ's Acoustic Wednesday

29th November - King Rollo's acoustic masterclass featuring King Rollo, Bobby Joyce & Sam Is Happy To Be Here plus others

6th December - Circus Envy (last gig of the year), The Redwood Thinkers (brilliant band from Leeds), Joe Solo (a favourite of Music HQ) and Tony Reid (from Liverpool and something a bit special)

13th December - Music HQ's Christmas Party hosted by Cracktown and their band of merry miscreants (I hope I've spelt it right)

As always doors open at 8pm for these 3 gigs, entrance is £2 unless you are playing the open mic section of the gig.
The Tigers Lair Club, Anlaby Road, Hull, HU3 2AJ

SPECIAL for all the artists/singers/bands/songwriters who have played Music HQ gigs this year, entrance will be free to the Christmas Party, come and have some fun and right royal knees up with us.

cheers Darren, Music HQ

Oh, how I do so enjoy the resonance of a cello in a song. And there's something distinctly Lou Reed-ish about the vocals and lyrics.

Thanks for the request.
