Born in the Bronx raised in Rockland County, this NY based guitar player has strong ties to the NYC scene with roots in rock, jazz, and the "jamband" scene. After a few choice concert experiences, Lott picked up the guitar in his senior year of High School mostly by ear, and nearly without training.
Attending the University of Michigan, Lott formed the popular Ann Arbor jamband Meropoix Meropoix Myspace. Meropoix exploded onto the Ann Arbor scene in 1999 while students attending the University of Michigan caught onto the flavor and sound of these new and emerging musicians. Often performing at local venues like Ricks, The Blind Pig, Touchdowns, and a variety of other parties/functions, the groups sound grabbed peoples attention quickly.
At Michigan Lott stretched out by playing with jazz students and by studying with music professors at the acclaimed music school, while remaining enrolled in a general undergraduate program. After playing on a regular basis in the midwest for nearly 3 years, he returned to New York to form the first of a few projects that would expose Lott to the heart of the NYC scene as a player, not just a listener. Forming a power trio called The Murrie Lazlo Trio (with bassist Michael Fitzpatrick and drummer Brian Factor) Lott began writing in his own style and performing all over the city.
After finally forming his current group Licorice Licoricemusic Lott asserted his role not only as a lead guitarist but as a vocalist and songwriter as well. He then formed a side project called The Seven Eleven Project Seven Eleven Myspace with longtime friends and collaborators Sabriena Stone and Michael Fitzpatrick, featuring a more acoustic side to Lott's playing, vocals and musical influences. Exploring even another avenue, he was recruited to join longtime friend and singer/songwriter Eric Silverman to join Silvertone Silvertone serving up the band's lead guitar duties as well as accompanying vocals for their debut EP. More recently he joined Rebecca Hart Rebecca Hart as lead guitar for this singer/songwriter, adding his unique textural flavorings.
Lott remains active in the Jamband community not only as a musician, but as a philanthropist creating and running the NYC Tsunami Relief Jam Tsunami Jam Feature in January of 2005 at BB King's. As Glide MagazineTsunami Jam Review reported, "It seems one man can make a difference. Local New York musician David Lott did more than just watch the tsunami devastation on the nightly news and read the reports in the morning paper. He actually took the tragedy on a personal level and made a call to action. One that somehow, in just a few short weeks, raised a proud donation for the American Red Cross and became one of the premiere rock nights to emerge from a rather frigid New York January." Lott was also helpful in the formation of the Katrina benefits and is working on a regular charity event for NYC musicians to be a part of!
David Lott lives in Brooklyn where he records music regularly on his home MAC (some of which is featured on this page) and performs regularly with Licorice Licoricemusic, Rebecca Hart Rebecca Hart and recently performed and recorded with Silvertone Silvertone. He has performed at venues like the Blue Note, Knitting Factory and Bowery Ballroom. He studies under the guidance of Ed MacEachen and has had the occassional lesson with mentor Larry Coryell as well.
Some of the tracks on the myspace page include friends of Lott's like Matthew Epstein on bass, Michael Fitzpatrick on bass and Brian Factor on drums. "Slept Through College" was originally engineered and mixed at the University of Michigan by musician/friend Matt Gill and later spliced by the MAC. "Your Song For Me" was written by Eric Silverman, who is featured on lead vocals along with the rest of Silvertone Silvertone from their debut EP "Your Song For Me"
