Born in 1984 on the island of Jamaica Damaine Brown, better known as
D'Maija has a slight edge in the cutthroat business or Hip Hop.
Because he grew up listening to Hip Hop, R&B Reggae and rock the
twenty-something year old understands the needs of music lovers.
However, its D'Maija's business savvy that provides him with the
necessities to make it in the industry.
In 2001 D'Maija's focus helped him hook up with rap partner Connie-Ak
and form the duo "Stock and Bonds". With an early buzz circling the
group they began to perform at local venues and build up a fan base.
The pair worked collaboratively on many tracks, such as those featured
on 2004's The Market Mixtape"all which displayed D'Maija's deep,
smooth and intoxicating voice. His voice flowed well over any beat and
the nature of his rhymes gave the young MC the appearance of an
experience entertainer. After being discovered in mid-2004 by Dave
Collins a Houston based manager, D'Maija further perfected his flow
and originality. The MC emphasizes, "I don't like to come basic
because people hear the same thing over and over. I try to skid a
little to the side and make it more original". Along with his amazing
studio voice D'Maija's style is welcomed anywhere he performs. Already
the lively rapper has traveled to places such as Quebec City, Montreal
and New York to rap in various venues and clubs as well as here in his
home town Toronto.
As for those who say Hip Hop is dead the MC has a few words of
knowledge. "Hip Hop isn't going anywhere" he affirms, "its here to
stay. All it takes is a few good men" Or maybe even just one named
D'Maija.
