NEWS
I am currently on the hunt for a local band who is on the hunt for an inexpensive photographer to shoot website shots, concert shots, promo shots, etc. The best of both worlds for both of us: you get photos without the high expense, I get to practice and improve my craft without trying to pass myself off as a 'pro' at this point.
If you're interested, or know anyone who might be interested, post a comment in one of my blog entries or send me a message and we'll talk.

BIO
I know that most artists have a bio up, and for some strange reason it is always done in the third person ie: Donna mair is no ordinary photographer... as if someone else has written it for you. But as most artists know, YOU have to write your own bio.
So.. what about me? What to write?
I began my foray into photography at a young age, but since I had no instruction or encouragement, and since I became endlessly frustrated by not being able to reproduce on film what my eye saw, I gave it up. (Poor equipment and no money for developing film also put a kink into it.)
Eventually I took it up again, 'borrowed' a Pentax from a family member (which I still have and use exclusively when i shoot film), and just started wandering with it in hand seeing what might catch my eye.
What attracts me photographically? Texture. Patterns and lines. Contrast. Light and dark in the same frame, or contrast of subject matter. Industrial objects. I'm drawn to architecture with its repeating patterns, construction sites with their myriad of machinery, things out of the norm.
I've recently begun to shoot digital, especially for client photoshoots, but I cant see myself giving up film completely. I prefer film photography for scenic or fine arts compositions - there's just something about film thats unreproducible I think, but I do love being able to shoot lowlight situations and have the majority of the shots turn out!
It's begun! I've recently starting taking concert and promo shots for a few bands; one batch for for my friends ROCKO and the DEVILS, and two for local band (and new friends), KJB Agents. I absolutely love it! I'm HOOKED. (See my blurb above if you're a band looking for concert shots)
I currently live in the greater Vancouver area of British Columbia, and continue to work in the construction sector. I'm also the official photographer for The Comfort Doll Project, a charity that raises money for African AIDS orphans by auctioning photos of musicians holding a Comfort Doll.(see my albums for more celeb charity photos)
