Welcome to the official South African DMC battle myspace site.
The DMC Championships is a global event where DJs from across the world compete against each other to earn themselves a golden set of turntables.
Around mid-year DJs focus on preparations and hours are spent constructing meticulously timed 6 minute sets showcasing the best of what that DJ can showcase - by using only vinyl, two turntables and a mixer.
In South Africa, it is no different, DJs from around the country enter the regional heats and the best DJ from each of the heats battles it out at the finals in Cape Town on Fri 25 July. The newly awarded champ then travels to the UK to represent South Africa in the world finals.
THIS YEARS RESULTS:
The nationwide DJ competition was won by Johannesburg DJ - The Cutt with runner up being Shameless from Cape Town. In third place was a very intuitive DJ Niffty. In a strange twist, The Cutt who was meant to represent South Africa in the World Finals in the UK at the end of Septemeber has had to pass the honour to DJ Shameless since he has taken a heavy fall and broken his hip! This after a world class performance in the finals. Get better soon Cutt!
DMC History...
DMC is the biggest global DJ organisation and have played a major part in redefining the role and the image of the DJ. Thanks to this, turntablism has now become a known term worldwide. The idea that a DJ could create something new and vibrant with two turntables, a mixer and vinyl was thrust into the public consciousness and we witnessed the rise of superstar battle DJs like Q-bert.
Keep it fresh:
When you enter the battles is important to know that you are not only battling it out locally, at the same time, DJs from across the globe are putting in hours of practise and will soon be cutting it up in their regional heats. So in actual fact, you are battling the world. Keep your routine fresh and make it flow with a well thought out structure. Also have more than one set prepared, and know how to link up different parts of sets so that you can be spontaneous if necessary. Always keep your best until you need it. Cut it up!

The heats are a four city DJ contest; DJs register online (follow the link below)for their particular city and each have 6 minutes to battle their skills against each other. Heats to be held end June/July in each of the following cities:
