.. First off, I need a publicist (calling focizzle, where r u gurl?) because I'm not good at telling my own story, but here goes..... .. I was born the son of a sharecropper down in the Red Clay Hills of Alabama...er, uh, wrong story, lol... .. OK, take two! D Maurice - a name synonymous with style, sophistication, talent and procrastination. I mean, it took me months just to actually write this, ya know? LOL, aight I'll stop with the antics... .. Simply put, I come from a diverse background of music. My main influences actually come from a man who couldn't sing a lick, but could buy the hell out of an LP (that's Long Playing disc for u nu skooler types), my Dad. I can remember listening for hours on end to anything and everything he brought in our house, from Foreigner to Parliament, from Marvin Gaye to Chicago, and everything inbetween. My sister and I grew up listening to it all... .. My Mom actually taught us the fine art of stepping (which never stuck, btw. Am I the only guy in Chicago that CAN'T step?) and performing under pressure. She made sure we did EVERYTHING - whether we wanted to or not. And the constant flow of every "dustie" imaginable was too powerful to ignore. We had a firm foundation of music and the love that eminated from it, and them... .. Now, I was raised in the church, and subsequently, my love for music and singing was only cultivated and nourished there. I've sung gospel music all my life. I actually never thought I would sing ANYTHING ELSE..... .. But LIFE happened... .. My Mom, who had me when she was only 16 years old (thank u Mom), passed away of colon cancer at the tender age of 48. My marriage of 11 years had crumbled (yeah, i'll take some of the heat for that), and my life had been irrevocably changed. My songwriting and expression took on a new life, a new form. My love for God had not changed, but my perception of life had. I had more than just His story to tell, but mine as well. And I knew He understood that... .. We all have to be true to ourselves, our vision, our purpose. I hope that I'm being true to mine. I write from my pain and loss, my success and failures, my love for God and man, and it's a story I believe is worth telling. U will definitely hear my mistakes in my music, because it's those mistakes that shape my experiences in this life and for the life to come. I welcome those experiences... .. Now, as I continue to add to these pages, I wish to convey the deep appreciation of all those that came before me, while adding something new to the mix as well. We r all influenced by SOMETHING. I hope u hear the influences in mine... .. As far as my background goes, I've performed with various artists, blah blah blah, but I don't think it's all about that. For me, it's about honest interpretation. I'm down with anyone's HONEST INTERPRETATION. My hope is that u hear it from me in my music... .. Thanks for stopping by and reading my diatribe on the origin of D Maurice. I look forward to our journey together... .. Peace,.. ..
