DARK MIRROR OV TRAGEDY's 'Pregnant Of Despair' Now Available - Sep. 11, 2009
"Pregnant of Despair", the sophomore album of one of South Korea's most revered metal bands, DARK MIRROR OV TRAGEDY, is finally out now on the most avid purveyor of the New Wave of Asian Metal, Trinity Records Hong Kong. The CD is comprised of 10 tracks of what the band refers to as "Koreanized" symphonic/dark/black/gothic metal. According to a press release, "the said 'Koreanizing' of their brand of metal will surely sets them apart from the numerous black/gothic bands which are often undistinguishable from each others as you will surely be amazed on how they blended the Korean culture on their music and how it effectively morphed their music to be truly one of a kind and will prove to be a refreshing listen even to the jaded ears."
DARK MIRROR OV TRAGEDY vocalist Material Pneuma told U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine, "Fusion food is very popular in Korea, where one country's food is taken and made Korean-style for the Korean palate, so when asked what's fusion music is, that is metal combined with traditional Korean music." He added, "I don't want to play those instruments poorly. If I try new things, I would rather play Korean music with western instruments than play Western music with Korean instruments."
As the album title implies, DARK MIRROR OV TRAGEDY's very unique take on music is "replete with lyrical themes about desperation, sorrow, sadness that proves to be of cathartic essence rather making the listeners delve further into depression," according to press release.

Trinity Records out of Hong Kong have issued the following update:
"We, at Trinity Records, have signed to our ranks to help us spread the awareness about New Wave of Asian Metal one of the best upcoming symphonic dark/black/gothic metal band from Korea, DARK MIRROR OV TRAGEDY. After making a name for themselves in their country through their 2005 release self titled debut and endless playing of shows, we are convinced that it’s already time for them to be heard outside of their country and let the metal world be taken by surprise."
The official press release is available below:
Formed in 2003 in a country so infertile for a seed of metal to grow Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy had surpassed this adversity and have already proven their sincerity and passion through their ethic of playing shows every time they had a chance no matter what if a show was in a dirty basement or in high profile club as long as they can share to the audience their Koreanized blending of symphonic dark/black metal with gothic. Their love for their music goes beyond squeezing time between their full time jobs and studies but most admirable is their sacrificing their hard earned money to produced their music and in doing a music video without thinking of something in return other than to be given a chance to be heard.
The members of Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy pride themselves in fusing ethnic Korean sounds to their spontaneous usage of minor key melodies that deeply incite the listener's sensitivity and their inclination to be experimental to stimulate the listener’s mind thus making their Koreanized brand of symphonic dark/black metal truly a class of its own while their contemporaries are just being content with just mimicking the pioneers of the genre. Quoting vocalist Material Pneuma on their interview on UK’s metal authority Terrorizer Magazine: "Fusion food is very popular in Korea, where one country's food is taken and made Korean-style for the Korean palate, so when asked what’s fusion music is, that is metal combined with traditional Korean music"; "I don't want to play those instruments poorly. If I try new things, I would rather play Korean music with western instruments, than play Western music with Korean instruments."
Their music will give us the feelings of sorrow and ecstasy at the same time for they are the natural within the unnatural. Sometimes we have to go outside of our comfort zone to find what we are looking for and Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy succeeded in doing so.
They will be releasing their second album via Trinity Records tentatively on May thru CD format and digital format on iTunes. Their sophomore release will be titled The Pregnant of Despair. The band assure us all that it will be a much more enjoyable listen compared to their self titled debut that they released on 2005 as they already matured as person and as musicians.

Thanks to playing live regularly and spending alot of their own dough to make a music video,
one of the most prominent acts in the Korean black metal scene is Dark mirror ov tragedy.
Formed in 2003 with a band name that refers to gloomy predictions of Nostradamus,
this cheery bunch enjoy making songs about suicide, death, and suffering.
With member names like M Pneuma, Gash and Confyverse, they certainly sound intriguing enough.
Although they are currently unsigned, they play shows about four times a month,
and practice twice a week while still holding fulltime jobs and studying.
Finding places to play is not that easy though, as vocalist Material Pneuma explains,
"We just do the rounds in small clubs. In other words, if we get any oppurtunities to play, we will always accept the offer."
.. "Fusion food is very popular in Korea, where one country's food is taken and made Korean-style for the Korean palate,
so when asked if fusion music, that is metal combined with traditional Korean music"
"especially with the huge and incredibly loud Korean drums, would work, the answer is slightly vague."
.. "I have thought about trying new things",
mused Material, "but it's not easy. I think I would play those traditional instruments myself if I can get the right feeling."
" I don't want to play those instruments poorly. If I try new things,
I would rather play Korean music with western instruments, than play Western music with Korean instruments."
Like Moonshine's Giga, Material doesn't seem overly optimistic about the future of Korean metal.
"The number of metal bands- especially extreme metal- are decreasing.
Most Koreans don't like metal a lot, because they have no oppurtunities to be introduced properly to it:
the TV always shows ballads and dancing singers, so they have no idea of the metal scene."
"For example, if our music video was aired on Korean television, we might get arrested for it!"
he laughs.

Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy -Naturalness within unnaturalness, or the gathering between sorrow and ecstasy.
From various ways of musical expression!s, D.M.O.T themes and
stands for spontaneous minor key melodies which will deeply
incite the listener's sensitivity.
Eluding from the existing local music standards, their breaking and
mixing music style is not to be judged easily.
Bands with all similar 'good to listen' music with a bit of
inclination to experimental and progressiveness might be
recognized for their rarity, but further to this to incite and stimulate
a listener's mind, a strong creative basis is needed.
Fortunately, D.M.O.T, even though is not all matured, with flashing
musical sense and outstanding song-writing capability of its
members is to paid close attention in its evolving course.
The band name DARK MIRROR OV TRAGEDY is taken from the
Middle-age prophet Nostradamus who saw the through the mirror
the dark cursing future.
Like the name, their music is the combination of small pieces of
harping memories from self life experiences carved by going back
and forth from darkness to brightness.
The conjuring sources are basic instruments such as guitar,
bass, drum and keyboard, and the natural combination of minor
keys which fully express the eastern sentiments, with classical
gothic music is the outstanding essence of D.M.O.T
The anguish carved recourse vocal along with the cursing
instrument performance recites a chapter poem which evokes
nothingness together with wholeness, darkness and daylight,
beauty and ugliness
