David's Interests
|
| General | Music, photography, poetry, literature, spirituality. Good bar-b-que done right, the old fashioned way. Shiner bottles. Lone Star tallboys. Mountain biking, camping, marching bands (my daughter was a drum major and my son's in the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps). Deep conversations. The slow dance of intimacy. Trust. Honesty. | | Music | Latest musical adventure was the Sandstorm Picnic at the venerable Moose Lodge in Austin, Texas. Some incredible new talent from Lubbock, in a showcase put on by Chris Oglesby, the author of "Fire in the Water, Earth in the Air..." His page is on here as a friend; look it up! Lots of the Lubbock-based musicians at the Picnic are also friends here, and I encourage--no, I DEMAND--that you check out at least one of them before you leave my page. You will not regret it. I'm also really digging the new Paperwork tracks that are on their MySpace page. Check them out! Had a great time seeing the Dynamites at ACL Fest 2007, along with Joss Stone and Steven Marley. My iTunes is usually Texas music on shuffle; many of the artists are listed right here. Favorites are Jay Boy Adams (click the link and spread the word!), Joe Ely, Jon Dee Graham, James McMurtry, Jimmie Dale and Colin Gilmore, Bob Schneider, Maps of Asia (a great Austin band), Tammany Hall Machine (another great Austin band), Opposite Day (Austin has the music, my friends), and the freakin' Invincibe Czars, who will guarantee you'll never listen to classical music the same way again. Ray Wylie Hubbard, Lucinda Williams, Bonnie Raitt, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Alejandro Escovedo, Los Lobos. The Texana Dames. Tom X Hancock. Butch Hancock, Cary Swinney, Lloyd Maines. OLD blues--Muddy Waters, Hooker, the Guys, the Buddys, the Kings. Kelly Willis, the Robison brothers, Reckless Kelly. Aretha Franklin. The Beatles. I grew up in the 70s, so Springsteen, Jackson Browne, the Who, AC/DC, all that classic rock stuff. Pink Floyd. Michael Franti. Lyle Lovett, Rodney Crowell, Roseanne Cash. The Man in Black. Steve Miller. Prince, Parliament/Funkadelic, the Arkestra, George Clinton in his many manifestations. Reggae of any origin. Vallejo, MC Overlord, Dirty Wormz. Slaid Cleaves, Michael Fracasso, Steven Bruton. Billy Joe Shaver. Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, and Willie F'n Nelson. Happy Birthday, Willie! | | Movies | Favorite movie of all time: Casablanca. I'm a hopeless romantic. Hell, I can't remember the last movie I saw in a theater--it's been that kind of year. Saw Hot Fuzz and laughed my ass off. Rented Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (I was having a bad weekend, ok?) and laughed even more. Also rented Barbarosa--a Western with Willie Nelson and Gary Busey--recommend it for fans of both Westerns and Willie.I own Dazed and Confused, Godfather I & II, Goodfellas, Reservoir Dogs, and Pulp Fiction. In the past: Patton, Band of Brothers, Good Will Hunting. Rounders, Say Anything, Grosse Point Blank. That whole Lord of the Rings deal. Old Star Wars. Trading Places. Pale Rider, The Unforgiven, all the old Eastwood/Sergio Leone stuff. | | Television | Hell, I'm back in school. I don't have time for TV, except for Battlestar Galactica on Friday nights. Because I have no social life, see...hehehe. | | Books | Finished reading and re-reading 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." Lots of photog how-to's, lots of poetry, fiction and plays/screenplays for school. Recently read: "On Photography' by Susan Sontag, and "The Elements of Color Photography'. Both gifts from my remarkable daughter. Also "Fire in the Water, Earth in the Air," by Chris Oglesby. It's a great examination of the Lubbock, Texas influence on rock music. If you dig music, buy this book -- it'll open you to a whole other world. Into the Bible every day, read Marianne Williamson often, and favor biographies when I make the time to read. 'The Artist's Way' has been a huge influence, as have 'Writing from the Body' and 'The Writing Life.' Love Tolkein (read the Trilogy at least once a year), a huge Frank Herbert fan, and then there are the classics on my bookshelf: Catcher in the Rye, Shakespeare, combined editions of poetry, etc. |

MySpace Layouts at TweakYourPage.com
Hey everyone! Greetings from Austin, Texas. My name's David--I'm glad you stopped by. I'm not going to do the classic age/description/why I'm a great guy dance, so if you're interested in being friends, shoot me a request. I will let everyone know--what you see and learn is the real deal. I'm a happy, competent, respectful, reasonably handsome sort with just a trace of wildness left in me. I'm into music and photography, and you can check out some of my photos here by hitting the Pics link. Also try clicking the link for Jay Boy Adams, a great Texas guitarist; several of my photos are on his site, too. (Buy his CD!) I'll be posting some of my archive stuff as time passes. Thanks again for stoppin' by! Oh, by the way: view the pics as you desire, e-mail wherever, use however, but credit me and remember: ALL PHOTOS ARE COPYRIGHTED BY DAVID MUNOZ.
COMMENTS ARE WELCOMED! NEW PHOTOS ARE HERE! COMMENTS ARE WELCOMED! Enjoy!
NEWS ON THE PHOTO FRONT!!! I've been blessed with my first cover. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal used a photo I took of Chris Oglesby (my brother-in-law) as the cover of an arts section of the September 7, 2007, newspaper edition. Thanks to Chris and Pearly for the help. More photos coming.
