Role model: Pastor Goroh. He is my inspiration, he took me in when my father died. He is the guy that would look you in the eye and tell you things that you don’t want to hear.
Naftalie Shigwedha Amukwelele is a former street Gangster turned award winning Gospel
rapper known as D-Naff, who sings inspirational gospel classics in the
style of Kwaito, Hip-Hop, Kizomba, Dancehall (reggae) and Afro-Pop.
He started his singing career back in the early 1990 while a student at
Jan Jonker Afrikaner under a group called the Glamour Boys, under
which he toured France in 1998 during the world cup under the sponsorship
of the Franco-Namibian Cultural Center in Windhoek. After this trip
D-Naff went on to help establish a Gospel group called Eagle's Mentality
which became the winner of the 2005 best Namibian Gospel at the
Sanlam/NBC music awards. It was then that he gained the opportunity to become a part of what was soon to become a National phenomenon, D-Naff. There was no stopping for him, he therefore decided to release his first solo
album entitled "Oshagwana" in 2006 followed by his second album
entitled Iikele Yuuyuni Mbu which won him an award at the Namibia music award in the gospel category with his song,Tsipi Tsipi. He is currently the best selling Gospel
Artist, and the country's top and most requested performing Gospel
star. His music enjoys airplay in all radio stations across the country
as well as Radio phoenix in Zambia, one of the most requested Artists
in Namibia indeed. He won Namibia's BEST GOSPEL Award in 2008!
He is also a motivational and inspirational speaker and has visited
more than 15 schools in Namibia including the University of Namibia,
Windhoek College of Education, Ongwediva College of Education and the
Polytechnic of Namibia, encouraging the youth to stand out, to stand up and
to stand for a cause that is greater than the desire for personal
comfort and immediate pleasure. He believes that it is possible to abstain
from sex till marriage.
D-Naff is also a member of a Choral group called Cantare Audire, under
the leadership of Mr. Ernst von Biljon at the college of the Arts.
D-Naff has recently been appointed as the (goodwill) Ambassador for the National Youth Council of Namibia (NYC). His duties as Ambassador include addressing the youth countrywide on matters facing them, being the spokesperson for them, motivating and inspiring them to be the best they can be and to live a life of meaning. He has just return from the USA where at the invitation of Rachel Nghiwete toured the US and London promoting his latest album;Above the limit.
