    Dobie "Mr. Lucky" Maxwell's Interests
GeneralI love to perform and teach standup comedy. It is my life. That does not mean I rot on my couch and watch Comedy Central every day. I am too busy DOING comedy than to watch it from afar. I love sports too. Football is my favorite, also baseball and basketball. Hockey is not interesting to me. If I want to see toothless imbeciles clubbing each other with sticks I'll go to a wedding in Alabama. Soccer doesn't thrill me either. Watching men who can't use their arms when chasing a ball is about as exciting as watching women with no breasts do the hula. None of it makes any sense. Neither did that last sentence but I'm trying to see if I can figure out how to get my profile updated and I might just be lazy enough to let it stay up for a while and see if anyone makes a comment on it. I doubt if anyone is ever going to read this anyway. Oh, another thing that interests me is 70s funk music. I have the inner beat of a jungle drummer and the outer core of a dorky white guy. I love George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, James Brown, Sly Stone, Cameo, Slave and almost any other kind of funk from that era. Then the rappers had to go and screw it up by taking my favorite beats and injecting all that 'KILL WHITEY' sentiment and poor grammar into it. Who do I ax about changing that? I can't seem to catch a break. I guess that's why I'm Mr. Lucky. Wow, I sure can't believe you read this far. I don't think I would have. Shouldn't you be surfing this for someone important or famous? Well, while you're here looking at my interests I'm interested to know if you would like to come and see my live comedy show. I've been working my whole life on it and it's finally starting to get halfway decent. Please come out and see me live if I'm ever on a stage near you. Thanks! I am also interested to know why Paris Hilton is famous.
MusicOOPS, covered this in the interest section. I also like rock and roll and even some country. I used to work in radio and worked for THREE country stations and I thought I'd put a bullet in my head after the first week but I was wrong. The women are a lot hotter and it's really rock and roll with cowboy hats at this point. I also like the Columbia House Record and Tape club. If it weren't for those 10 CDs for a penny and a false name and address I wouldn't have the music collection I have today. Rock on, Columbia House!
MoviesAll the classic guy movies: Caddyshack, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Godfather, Full Metal Jacket, you know. The classics. I also love Groundhog Day, Used Cars, Stripes, Blues Brothers, Smokey And The Bandit and anything with Rodney Dangerfield in it. Oh, and I love Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein too. Peter Sellers is in a movie called 'The Party' that is kind of obscure but HILARIOUS. I love Woody Allen's early stuff too. I would have to say my favorite movie is either Mr. Saturday Night or King Of Comedy. Both are pretty inside the business and most people in the public wouldnt' get it. And NO, I do NOT like Punchline. Tom Hanks is great but that is a 90 minute verbal bowel movement.
TelevisionNot much time to watch TV. I love A&E Biography and all those Bill Kurtis shows about chasing down mass murderers. I also love SportsCenter and NFL Primetime on ESPN. I am also in love with Robin Meade on CNN Headline News in the morning. YEOWWWW, that's my baby. Too bad her husband won't let her go out with me. I'd buy her a nice big meal at the food court in the mall. No expenses spared for my honey. Other than that, TV sucks. If the show Two and a half Men is the number one comedy in America then I am on the wrong planet. I wouldn't waste two and a half brain cells watching it, but it doesn't take that many. I don't even own a TV.
BooksBall Four by Jim Bouton. I never get sick of re-reading that book. It's a diary of a major league baseball season and it's not only very funny it's very insightful as to the inner workings of baseball. I started writing my daily diary of what it's like to be a comedian because I think there are a lot of similarities. I sure hope you enjoy the diary. Check it out while you're here.
HeroesRodney Dangerfield. He's 'the man' in my book. He and I are of the same comic pedigree. Jerry Lewis begat Jim Carrey. Jonathan Winters begat Robin Williams. Steve Allen begat David Letterman. It's a comedic bloodline. Mine is definitely Rodney's. People tell me all the time 'You remind me of Rodney up there.' I used to CRINGE when I heard it but now I understand that it's a big compliment. I don't do his jokes, but his persona is identifiable with mine. I would LOVE to be compared to Rodney, especially 40 years from now after a great run like he had. He struggled a lot and so did I. He's my favorite of all time bar none. I got to meet him before he died and he told me I was funny and that STILL makes my neck hair stand up. What a huge thrill.

About me:
www.dobiemaxwell.com is my website. I am a nationally touring standup comic and I also teach comedy classes at Zanies in Chicago. I used to do mornings at The Loop in Chicago until the station got sold and we were all fired the week before Christmas. Radio is BRUTAL but I have always been able to find a job on the air because I'm a quick wit. Too bad most radio executives are half wits. That's why I've been fired five times. I don't suffer idiots very well. And when standup comedy is 'stable', I knew radio was not the career for me. I am happy doing comedy and I love teaching too.
Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone who enjoys comedy, both watching and performing. I'd also like to meet kooks, nuts, dorks, flakes, freaks, geeks, goofs, fruitcakes, crackpots, nerds, numbskulls, boobs, oddballs, misfits, loners, moaners, groaners, wackadoos, nincompoops, vampires, elves, Elvis fans, werewolves, wombats, wankers, waterheads, mongoloids, thalidomide babies, vegans, pimps, pedestrians, presbyterians, maniacs, misfits, psychos, ping pong players, hobos, bums, people of color, karate experts, accordian players, homo sapiens, hitch hikers, open mikers, UFO abductees and fans of the Green Bay Packers. Oh, and while I'm thinking of it I would love to meet George Clinton, James Brown, David Letterman and anyone who is happy with their current cell phone provider. Other than that, if you 're not any of those things I'd like to meet you too. I am on stage one hour a night and have 23 hours to kill. Dazzle my senses and tantalize my imagination. Life is too short to be bored.

I missed the show not being live on Sunday. Lou and I should have done the show with the help of Lara and Gary, and Dr. D. Then we would have a wide variety of topics to cover.
The Time-Men Movie was Fun. Lou was really Good as the professor.
The cast was very nice,

Interesting show Dobie. I had certain reservations about a pet pyschic but as I listened I became more open minded. She did hit the nail on the head with a few of the callers. I was a bit concerned when she mentioned that wild animals are cool with hunters though. That is a bit of a reach for me. But overall a very informative interview.

hey Dobie, St Charles is a bit of a hike for me. How is that Zanies anyway? I've never been to that one (the only one in IL I havent been to). Anyway, hope you have a good show there.
