Dobi Kwe is an emerging female artist from South London bringing a fresh and exciting new sound to the music scene.
Dobi’s unique blend of soulful vocals combined with her wide range of influences makes her one of those rare versatile artists who it is impossible to pigeonhole. A classically trained singer, she is able to effortlessly switch gears between songs and genres without missing a beat. Dobi’s music is all about thoughtful lyrics and a positive message driven predominantly by infectious basslines and catchy rhythms. She says of herself, “I’m a spiritual person and the music I make tries to reflects this. I think about life … I enjoy knowing (or thinking I know!) what makes people tick”. She continues to draw on the many influences and styles she loves and with each song she reveals a different facet of a strong musical identity and approach. “Music is my passion; it can express and create every [kind of] human mood and emotion, it can tell a story, it can state the facts.”
Dobi’s first independent release, “Feel That Jam!” debuted at 21 on the U.K. Club Charts (August 25th 2007) and rose all the way to 7. The song was also given an additional boost by dance music specialists WAWA who contributed a remix of the song. 2007 also saw Dobi selected from thousand across the country as one of the finalists in the Hugo Urban Rules showcase in London (Dec 4th 2007) which was headlined by Unklejam and Amerie. She was also selected as one of the finalists in the 2007 USA Song-writing competition for her song “Movershaker”. On November 1st 2008 at a star-studded event in London hosted by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, Dobi recevied yet another accolade when listeners worldwide voted "Feel That Jam!" as the winning Song in the R&B/Soul category of the Festival4stars International songwriting competition.
As one-half of the production duo, U&I. With her brother, Yugy, 2008 has seen Dobi return to the studio to focus on writing and recording new material as she looks to continue to expand her steadily growing catalog of music. Their style is notably fresh and relevant while still drawing on the timeless qualities of R&B, pop, and rock.
