Before that he had WRITTEN, SUNG, and played BASS. But upon hearing the AMAZING TALENT of GATTON on the TELECASTER, he was struck between the eyes(or ears). As a GUITARIST, Doc loves all manners of music. Particularly those with a lot of Swing, Chops, Colors, and Drive, such as Rockabilly, Hot country, R&B flavored Jazz. As a SONGWRITER, he favors a more lyrical approach such as MERLE HAGGARD,LYLE LOVETT, WILLIE NELSON,GUY CLARK, or TOWNES VAN ZANDT, although SOMETIMES the two WORLDS COLLIDE!
After a long time on the club scene, he released his first CD "A DOWNHOME CIRCUS" (October2007} as a SINGER/SONGWRITER. DOC's music is very ROOTS oriented and draws from COUNTRY, ROCKABILLY, R&B, ROCK, JAZZ, GOSPEL, AND ACOUSTIC. Every song is an act of passion between DOC and his lifelong love, "THE GUITAR". Weaving melodies thru rhythms, he tells stories, explores musical lines, has adventures and hauls deep feelings into the naked light of reality. SINGING, WRITING, AND PLAYING as only a person who has SPENT HIS LIFE PERFORMING IN BARS can, DOC paints his word pictures. As he says about his SONGWRITING, "I lived it, and watched it being lived."
HE IS CURRENTLY WRITING, TEACHING, AND WORKING on his NEXT ALBUM.

This Thanksgiving I did the traditional thing and shot my own turkey. I wish you could have been there to see those people in the meat department scatter!
Great chops and killer command of melody and groove! You had me thinking in deeper resolution then I have in a long time. Makes me want to practice on my own again (and I will). I learned a lot playing with you and Steve and I hope I can have that chance again! Awesome!!

Great vocals Doc. My apologies for not listening sooner. I just recently spent some time in VA. I would have loved to hear you entertain in person. I have written several songs myself. Sometimes I get the lyrics and wait months for the melody or vise versa. Not an easy task. Now, I have directed myself to write a book. It is slow going but coming along. Have a great weekend. -deb-
