Dr. Ira Goldwasser(Dr Salsa) and his wife and partner, Harriet Broekman, longtime devotees and broadcasters of Afro-Cuban music, currently host Mambo!, Friday evenings from 11 p.m. to midnight, on Netherlands Nationwide FM radio, De Concertzender Nederland. Every second Friday of the month, they broadcast Dr. Salsa's Jazz Latino, from midnight to 8:30 a.m., on that same station.

From Mambo to Hip Hop tells the story of how multiple generations of predominantly Puerto Rican New Yorkers created artistic expressions that are at once culturally specific yet universally appealing. Focusing on the mambo, salsa, and hip hop generations and the South Bronx neighborhood that has been celebrated and demonized, the film reveals how creative expression helped foster and sustain a community, and when the landscape looked bleakest, served as a resource for strength and community rebuilding. The film weaves a tapestry of people, places and a unique culture with a social history that includes colonialism, migration, and racism.
Este documental cuenta la historia de las diversas generaciones de neoyorkinos - en su mayoría puertoriqueños - que han creado formas artísticas que si bien son culturalmente específicas también tienen resonancia universal. La película examina tanto las generaciones que inventaron el mambo, la salsa y el 'hip hop' como el barrio neoyorkino del South Bronx, festejado y demonizado como la cuna de estos movimientos. From Mambo to Hip Hop también explora la creatividad de estos grupos que han brindado y promovido un sentido de comunidad: la música y la danza, en este paisaje urbano muchas veces sombrío, han dado fuerza y sentido al esfuerzo de construir una comunidad. La película va tejiendo un tapíz de gente, lugares y una cultura única sobre un trasfondo que aborda el colonialismo, la inmigración y el racismo.
