Matt Drake (singer/songwriter/producer) the creative force behind DODGER, slaves like a zombie possessed in his home studio. Congering relentlessly. It’s the only way to survive his ever maddening mind.
Originating from punk bands in his teens, Drake incorporates the DIY attitude and spastic rock into Dodger. He enlisted the help of guitarist Luke “Billy $” Muldoon, keyboardist Andrew Russell, bassist Ryan “Reggie” Regimbal, and drummer Stu Fazekas to complete a new vision: an epic, urban sound accompanied by heavy guitars, dancehall and Caribbean rhythms and mile a minute vocals aka “Hardcore Reggae.”
After spending a year in complete musical solitude the band emerged hungry, ready to devour the masses.
In 2004 Dodger landed five dates on the Onyx Hotel tour opening for Skye Sweetnam and Britney Spears. Drake was playing guitar for singer Sweetnam, when Britneys’ other opening act Kelis dropped out due to illness. Drake impromtly took the stage and held unsuspecting viewers captive with melodic reggae rage.
Since then, Dodgers had the privilege of sharing the stage with acts such as The Salads, Danko Jones, The Trews, Swollen Members, Bedouin Soundclash, Finger Eleven and been featured at Wakestock, (Toronto’s Wakeboard Festival) for the past two years.
During the 2006 Canadian Music week Festival, Jag Tanna, (I Mother Earth) witnessed the boys live and immediately felt the shockwave. Tanna produced and recorded Dodger’s first all-out studio debut Musth- born on August 30th at 11pm in Toronto’s legendary Lee’s Palace to a sold out crowd. Rave reviews followed and a nomination for best new band at Hamilton’s Music Awards. The band also scored the cover of The View (Hamilton’s Leading Alternative Magazine) this past fall.
With sold out shows in Toronto and across Ontario, Dodger’s army is building at the speed of sound. Everyone will be infected!
