The story of Dog OK isn't about talent or luck, but it is about persistence. It's not about wanting to be a star. It's about wanting to be yourself. It's not so much about never giving up as it is about always coming back to what means the most to you. It's a story about hearing songs and wanting to write songs. It's about hearing music and wanting to be a part of it.
The history of Dog OK really begins during Patrick's high school days when he first heard the music of bands such as R.E.M., U2 and The Beatles and he wanted to write his own songs. So he began writing lyrics and learning to play guitar. Playing and performing never came naturally to Patrick, but his band experience began during his college days and he went on to record as a member of the Spring Beagles, Puzzle Dogs, Blinkdog and At This Remove. He has also been a member of Inspector 13 and several other short-lived acts, but the idea for a band named Dog OK stems back to his college days. Eventually he turned to recording as a solo artist, playing all the instruments himself and performing solo acoustic shows, but the first choice was always to be in a band.
Both Jon and Pokey are members of The Youngstown Tramps. Jon also records as Jonny Locomotive and is also a member of the Mill Creek Boyz. Pokey has also been a member of several band including Inspector 13, The Trash Boyz, The Barking Hippos, NHRA, Manifold Stud, STML and the Crissie McCree Band.
Patrick first met bassist Jon Locketti at an open mic show in Youngstown, Ohio. Jon was performing as a member of The Youngstown Tramps. Neither Jon nor Pokey knew it at the time, but even then Patrick was considering them as possible members for Dog OK. Later Jon saw a note Patrick had placed on his MySpace page looking for musicians to play live shows. Jon's first choice was to play drums for Dog OK, but eventually decided to become the band's bassist when The Youngstown Tramps' drummer Pokey, who like Patrick was also a former member of Inspector 13, agreed to drum for the band.
So many years after the initial idea, Dog OK was a real band.
Super Duper Saturday Shindig Show at the Royal Oaks
The Youngstown Tramps can’t play due to an emergency. And so instead of cancelling the show, Jonny Locomotive (of the Youngstown Tramps) and The Undercover Saints (from Pittsburgh) will be playing. Jonny Locomotive will be performing some Tramps tunes and other tunes with just an acoustic guitar. It should be a very rare occasion, so don't miss it. All for an unbelievably low cover charge of $2 (to help the Undercover Saints cover their gas costs). Free Youngstown Tramps CDs will be available at the show.
