Like the anticipation of a lightning strike, or the smell of rain, some experiences just cannot be put into words. They are too powerful and overwhelming to be justified in speech or text. Only those who have felt the intensity of these moments could understand what they really are. Such is DOGS of Pray. Once they begin their plotted notes of musical theatrics, something happens that must be felt, must be lived through, and must be remembered to be understood.
With a decadent flavoring of heaviness, seasoned with gothic tones, and topped with a dark theatric presentation, this juggernaut of chaotic beauty seems to be fueled by something otherworldly. DOGS of Pray, originally the brainchild of Henley Folk (no longer a member), Eddie Folk (after relocating from Los Angeles), and Tom Meadows (in Virginia) was reformed in 2006 adding Bobbi Folk, Doug Zirk, and Eric Walter to their permanent lineup. Fronting vocalist Bobbi Folk calls out with a powerful vocal style and range that can often send chills up your spine. Bassist Doug Zirk gives a deep march of war crunch to the cement cracking heavy riffs thundered out by guitarists Tom Meadows and Eddie Folk. Tom, also a very gifted vocalist in his own right, handles backing vocals as well as lead vocals on some arrangements. Drummer Eric Walter hammers machine like beats of orchestrated complexity to tie everything together.
In 2007 they signed a recording contract with Nashville label ANA Records and released their first CD in January of 2008, The Rise... (iTunes, WalMart, Rhapsody, etc.).They have played such venues as Cornerstone Festival, Liberty University, 7:30 Club, motorcycle rallies, and many other clubs and festivals. They have been on the bill with other artists such as Flyleaf, Skillet, Decyfer Down, As I Lay Dying, Demon Hunter, Hawk Nelson, and Anberlin.
In late 2009 DOGS of Pray parted ways with their label and and are in the process of recording and producing their new CD independently for an early 2010 release.
We had the pleasure of catching DOGS live three times this past summer and were simply blown away with their professionalism as well as the power and presence they project from the stage. Their shows are nothing short of an experience. They posses the ingredients to turn their Indie dream into an international sensation.

DOGS Of Pray, as is fitting to the gothic rock genre, takes dark and swarthy environs and mixes it with edgy rhythm guitars, a resounding low end and mood filled keyboards. Bobbi, to put it bluntly, brings all the qualities that make a great lead vocalist: grit, emotion, soul, guts and determination- all backed by an abundant range and heartfelt passion. When DOGS Of Pray hits the nail on the head songwriting wise it does not get much better. The album ultimately proves to be a consistent listen. Bobbi’s vocal abilities are incredible. Lyrically, The Rise… proves an inspired work that I draw a great deal of encouragement from. Recommended for fans of any type of gothic influenced music.
