"Certainly not every day you hear a song with lyrics inspired by a 50-something-year-old novel. But that’s what’s cool about Dogs of Winter."
-- Licorice Pizza
It sounds improbable that one braintrust could have come up with perspective drawing, ice cubes, the letter 'R' and Kurt Vonnegut; but that entity is Dogs of Winter.
Dogs of Winter are characterized by their hardiness and military prowess, as well as their many other impressive skills. They can climb seemingly unscalable cliffs, track humans and animals with ease, and stalk their prey without making a sound. They are tall, dark with light colored eyes, and exceptionally strong. In spite of these almost super-human attributes, however, they are still an uncivilized and tribal people, and should be treated as such. Their governing body is referred to as the Graea, or "Gray Ones," suggesting an ancient, tribal oligarchy that places respect for age and wisdom above brute strength.
More interesting is the Dogs' overriding sense of morality and justice, which contrasts with the malevolence of the surrounding civilized races. This juxtaposition results in a compelling role-reversal, in which the barbarians are portrayed as being just and noble while the kings and so-called "heroes" are exposed as ruthless, corrupt, and uncaring jagbags.
Having recently completed a full-length album for Exotic Recordings - an album for which they claim they "could give a fuck about your opinion" - they're currently residing in Carpathian mountain range, subsisting on a purification diet of lightbulbs and caviar while they await its January 2009 release.
