The Dogwood Deddy is the creation of songwriter and guitarist Leon Godwin and cellist Joe Kwon from the band BUS, who you might remember as Big Pretty and the Red Rockets. The two have been performing music together since 2003 and created the Dogwood Deddy as an outlet for their acoustic folk styles. Enter Brian Tavener of Glorydive on percussion and guitar, and Brianne Godwin on drums. The songs run the gamut of styles that many acoustic acts so often do, but there's something about them that transcends your run-of-the-mill singer-songwriter combo. Whatever the venue, be it party, coffee shop, bar or club, The Dogwood Deddy has the GOODS.
The music is what's happening right now in us - all the difficulties, triumphs, hurt, joy, depression, the present, the past. Their music is honest and unforced. They stomp their feet because they have bad rhythm. They sing out of tune because that's how they hear it. They play bad notes because it sounds so good. It's a joy to play...it really is a joy.
-Just took a spin through all your posted songs again ...and it made me miss y'all, both the original and the current Dogwood Deddy. Sorry I couldn't work that late March show in. My loss!
Seeing you all back together sharing the same 5'x 8' space did me a world of good! For a while tonight, the music emanating from that vortex of sound refocused the center of my universe to Blue Horn Lounge. -Such good times in small spaces.
havent talked you guys for a while....how the shows going? i'm moving to new york in a week, but will be coming back through the southeast every 6-8 weeks or so. see you soon.
Hey Joe, -Glad you asked, 'cause I hadn't checked by in a day or so!
The new Dogwood Deddy songs are good! I'll proudly post any on my profile page, ...but I'll start with Live Life Simple, 'cause I love to howl beautiful harmony to that piece. Gotta' wait a day or so though, because I'd just posted a Mark Simonsen piece, and he hasn't opened his myspace page in a day or so, so he doesn't know it's up.
If I'm around I'll try to make it out! That would be really fun! I haven't heard a new band in a really long time, so that would def. be exciting... thanks for the reminder. Heart, Julia
