Influences
Dolly's influences are drawn strongly from numerous classic soul, R&B and jazz artists, such as Bobby Womack, James Brown, Al Green, Otis Redding, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday as well as the contemporary sounds of Johnny Legend, India Airie, Alicia Keys, Joss Stone and Angie Stone She also loves many diverse acts inspired by these, for instance Jamiroquai and James Morrisson.

Dolly James is a singer-songwriter who has worked nationally and internationally with established artistes such as Belinda Carlisle, Bronski Beat, Van Morrison, Mike Oldfield, Michael Bolton, Simply Red, James Taylor Quartet and Drizabone to name a few. She has appeared on national and American television and toured extensively world-wide.
Her debut album, The Journey, released in July 2006, is a collection of songs inspired by personal and life changing experiences:
"Over the years, friends and relations have come and gone. They filled my life with their presence and created a void in their absence. Writing this album has given me an emotional outlet to share my thoughts and feelings about all that has happened with them in my life, our personal experiences, as well as current issues that I feel strongly about. I hope that I can carry on doing what I love best - only time will tell."
I also perform a tribute show to Tina Turner and have been doing this nationally and internationally for a good few years. I admire her a great deal and have such fun performing either as a solo act or with a full band.
