(By Dolly Shot)
Dolly Shot's story is anything but usual. As a matter of fact, some years ago Dolly Shot’s members were part of different bands that belonged to the underground scene of Lima, Peru.
Ed Rebel and Liam Subauste met each other in this scene, since both of them were playing regularly in certain pubs and bars with their own bands. After some years, as their friendship and experience grew, they decided to play together, asking Chris Rebel, Ed’s brother, to join the band. Under the name of “La Ultima Fotografía” (The Last Photograph), the band started to perform in several venues in the city and the country. La Ultima Fotografia’s popularity rapidly grew and the band became a modestly recognized band of the scene.
Regardless of making music in Peru (which means speaking and singing in Spanish), all the members grew up under remarkable music influences which were more cosmopolitan than anything. The connection they established with the outside world made their music evolve into different styles: Alternative, Rock, Funk, Soul, Punk, Pop and more. This whole mixture of styles turned out to give an own identity to their music.
Even though things were working out well for the band in Peru, the band felt a huge desire and a more ambitious goal: showing their music to the whole world. That’s how a new project was born: Dolly Shot. The main idea was to make music that, in a certain way, could reflect a little bit of every single music style they loved.
Dolly Shot hit the studio on August 2006 to record their first independent production; the results of this effort were 7 tracks. The band did all the creative, recording, production and mixing processes themselves. The public response was great, especially at MySpace; lots of people supported the band with comments, messages and diffusion on their own profiles.
In order to continue with their ambitions, on May 2007, the band went into the studio for the second time. New funky rock and energetic sounds were the main attraction of these tracks. The recordings also proved the band’s experimentation with new sounds and instruments they hadn’t used at the beginning (such as the keyboard and synthesizers). Once again the main promotion was made at MySpace and the fans were even more pleased with the songs.
On July 2007, the band traveled to New York City in order to promote their material. This way, at Times Square and other parts of the city, they sold 1000 CDs which included the 9 songs they had recorded so far.
The rest of the year the band got into a break period; Renzo (drums) decided to explore different styles of music with a new pop project; while Liam traveled to Canada for a sound engineering course. The band stopped practicing and all creative procedures were stopped. After some months of individual introspective, Ed, Liam and Chris finally decided to continue with their dream and came out with a very unusual plan: Working remotely between Canada and Peru. This way, after 2 months of hard work, sacrifice and lots of file transfers, Dolly Shot successfully finished their 3rd release, called “Thirdair”.
Four songs, “Big White Building”, “Woman”, “I Can’t Deal With Love Fasting” and an very innovative cover version of Johnny Cash/ Nine Inch Nails “Hurt”; are the proof of their more serious and ambitious work until this day, and it also shows their diversity and unique sound.
After all this journey of changes, ups & downs, and 3 recording experiences, the band has showed an evolution and personality exploration that only keeps getting better and more unique. Dolly Shot will continue their projects, learning about new music and, specially, working hard for their fans.

How did you get into music? : I suppose my taste for music started when I was a kid and my dad used to play some albums in his car. I also used to hang out with a cousin who played guitar; I was completely astonished by his skills (now I’m not sure if he was really that great, but then it seemed amazing); some months later I asked for a guitar.
Favourite artists:I like a lot of music, the list includes The Beatles, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, U2, The Cardigans, John Lennon, John Frusciante, Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Fiona Apple, etc.

How did you get into music? : I was young and easily impressed, watched Back to the Future and knew that I had to learn how to play Johnny B. Good. This and my aunt’s guitar got me started. Funnily enough a couple of years ago I realized that Chuck Berry was born the same day I did.
