Before we were the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois, “we” were simply seven young Dominican women sent from Kentucky to central Illinois to teach immigrant children. Those seven had no idea, in 1873, that they would become the wisdom figures for generations of Dominican Sisters to follow them.

Dominican Sisters. Corporately committing to be inclusive in their relationships, to embrace diversity of people, and stand in solidarity with and for persons who are marginated.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois, enriched by members from the United States and Peru, firmly embrace vowed life in community.
We are preachers in the spirit of Dominic, sustained by our
life together and nourished by study, contemplation and
liturgical prayer.
Moved by the woundedness of all creation, we compassionately preach the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
