I'm a life-long drummer with an appreciation for TIME, FEEL and GROOVE. (Everything else is gravy.)
I try to remember that my No. 1 job is to keep solid time; my No. 2 jobs are to make the band and the song sound good. Period.
If you're looking for a drummer for live gigs, session work (or even a drum tech!), then we need to talk!
In my 20 years of playing, I've covered just about every genre out there (try me!) Lately, I really enjoy playing original singer-songwriter pop-rock with soul (especially with a unique sound and energy!) I've also been singing for about 15 years and would love the opportunity to sing backing vocals, too.
I'm kept quite busy a freelance session/live drummer with various bands, mostly in the Cleveland area. In the past year or so I've performed and/or recorded with Zach (original pop-rock singer/songwriter with fire), Kristine Jackson (original blues/soul), modQUAD (original jazz/funk/jam band), Nathan Corsi Band (original indie-rock power-blues trio), Kristine Jackson (original blues/soul), Cedar Creek (original pop-country, 4 singles on Clear Channel radio), Stealing Heather (original brit-pop), Lost State of Franklin (original roots/americana/rockabilly) and Lauren Dragon (original jazz/soul, star of "Love, Janis") and MANY more - a motley crew to say the least. (Check them out on my friends list!)
I'm also pretty busy teaching these days - private drum lessons in the Cleveland, OH area, along with some workshops and clinics. (Teaching really is a learning process!) I've been teaching for over a decade already - almost every style, age and ability level...if you're interested, send me a message!
My "day job" is a company I started called Woodshed Percussion Concepts (www.WoodshedPercussion.com or visit us on myspace: myspace.com/WoodshedPercussionConcepts) as an outlet for some new percussion products I developed as well as drum instruction. I'm happy to say it's been growing steadily since 2000. Check it out!
A Quick History Lesson...
I started playing when I practically a baby, thanks to very supportive parents. Now I found a way to make a living at it (well, sort of...).
I grew up listening to oldies and big band records from the 1950s and 60s, later fell in love with soul and funk, and I've played a wide variety of music since.
...One of those styles is competition pipe band drumming...I've spent the better part of 15 years playing in competition pipe bands (see "4/4 Marches" track above), solo snare drumming competitions and teaching. I've learned so much about performance, discipline (debatable...) and music in general...very cool outlet for sure.
I've played in some cool places (clubs to arenas) with some cool bands (sharing the stage with Tower of Power, The Barenaked Ladies and Rod Stewart), and I've played on six full-length studio albums, most in the last few months (I'd would love to do more.)
Of course, if you're really curious, you can learn more about me on my site, or drop me an email.
Audio Info
I hope you like the tunes on this page. Here's some info about them:
1 - "Runway" - Zach
From the 2009 Zach full-length called "What I Meant to Say" (on which I have exclusive drums/percussion credits.) Recorded at the incredible Tree Sound Studios (Elton John, Maroon 5, Black Crowes) in Atlanta, while the rest of the band tracked at nearby Namaste Studios (Gym Class Heroes). 2 - "This Place" - Nathan Corsi Band
Recorded for the full-length Nathan Corsi Band debut album entitled "A Londoner Anarchist" (2008). Recorded "live" with no percussion overdubs at Ante-Up in Cleveland (Dave Matthews, Tori Amos, Colbie Caillat) in the first or second take. 3 - "Apple Pie" - Zach
This is another track from the Tree Sound/Namaste (Atlanta) sessions with pop singer/songwriter Zach from his 2009 release "What I Meant to Say". 4 - "World On Fire" - Zach
"Come in / the world is on fire." Album closer from the Tree Sound/Namaste (Atlanta) sessions with pop singer/songwriter Zach from "What I Meant to Say" (2009). This track features some fun experiments with percussion sounds and loops. 5 - "A Londoner Anarchist" - Nathan Corsi Band
Title track from the upcoming NCB 2008 self-released debut album. Recorded "live" with some overdubs but without a click at Cleveland's Ante-Up studios.
6 - "Wherever You Are" - Zach
This is another track from the Tree Sound/Namaste (Atlanta) sessions with pop singer/songwriter Zach from his 2009 release "What I Meant to Say". The breakbeat-style loop intro was played by me, live. Fun stuff. 7 - "Ever After" - Zach
A soulful head-bobbing track from the Tree Sound/Namaste (Atlanta) sessions with pop singer/songwriter Zach from his 2009 release "What I Meant to Say". 8 - "Every Time I Think About Her" - Zach
From Zach's 2008 acoustic/folk/pop full-length "Lost+Found", on which I also have exclusive drums/percussion credits. 9 - "A Way Through" - Zach
The first single from the Tree Sound/Namaste (Atlanta) sessions with pop singer/songwriter Zach from his 2009 release "What I Meant to Say". 10 - "4/4 Marches" - 87th Cleveland Pipe Band
A great representation of competition bagpipe band music (though this set of tunes wouldn't really be played in competition.) This track was recorded in 1 take - with probably 12 pipers, 5 snares, 3 tenors and a bass - recorded "live" (no overdubs, no click) in a full-band setting above Cleveland's historic Agora Theater - in a studio historic in its own right (once a radio studio from which pioneer Allan Freed broadcasted.) The track features a selection of traditional marches in 4/4 time, from the 2004 album "Generations" by the 87th Cleveland Pipe Band.
