Donald Payne’s talents evolved during the 70’s when he joined a Columbus soul group, The Crowd Pleasers. It was through this group that he was able to join forces with the legendary Ohio Player, Walter “Junie” Morrison. While touring with Junie, the Crowd Pleasers now called the Scoon Boogie Band released an album with Junie on Westbound Records titled, " Junie, Suzie Super Groupie".
During recording of the Crowd Pleasers album Donald was asked to do recording sessions with guitarist, Glen Goins of Parliament Funkadelics.
After numerous recording sessions with Glen Goins, Donald was later featured on Quazars new album with a song entitled, "Working on the Building". The album titled, "Quazar" produced two gold singles.
During October 1998 Donald met Wilbert Longmire, jazz recording guitar player, and completed the recording of two songs at “Bootsy” William Collins recording studio in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1999 Bootsy invited Donald back to record in his studio and complete two songs for Fred Wesley, trombonist and
formerly of the James Brown Band, Parliament - George Clinton, and Bootsy’s band.
Donald Payne stays true to the funk with his latest solo release “Hate
The Game”. On this CD the Bass man takes it to the stage with 10
solid cuts on the offering.
March 2004, Donald became the bass player for Que and Malaika,
a Hip Roc Soul group out of Dayton Ohio. This group was the
opening act for George Clinton on his P Funk Tour. 3yrs played the ribfest in zanesville ohio. first year 2008 multifest chareston wv open for freddy jackson august 2nd.
