The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network, under contract to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, ensures fair distribution of donated organs in the United States. It is the model for transplant systems around the world.
Who Can Donate
Most People Can Donate Organs and/or Tissue
All people of all ages should consider themselves potential organ and tissue donors. There are few absolute exclusions (HIV positive, active cancer, systemic infection) and no strict upper or lower age limits. Potential donors will be evaluated for suitability when the occasion arises.
You Are Never Too Old
No one is too old or too young. Both newborns and senior citizens have been organ donors. The condition of your organs is more important than age. Someone 35 years old with a history of alcohol abuse may have a liver that is in worse condition than someone 60 years old who has never consumed alcohol. In addition, people on the waiting list might need to be transplanted with an organ that is less than ideal if there is no other suitable organ available in time to save their lives. Doctors will examine your organs and determine whether they are suitable for donation if the situation arises. If you are under 18, you will need the permission of a parent or guardian to donate.
Medical Condition? Don't Rule Yourself Out
You may still be able to donate your organs. Doctors will evaluate the condition of your organs when the time arises. The transplant team’s decision will be based on a combination of factors, such as the type of illness you have had, your physical condition at the time of your death, and the types of organs and tissues that would be donated.
If you have any questions concerning organ & tissue donation, who can donate, or how to register to be an organ donor, please message me and I will be sure you are provided any necessary documentation and links to assist you in making this gift of life decision for yourself. Donate Life Catonsville MD is here to support our community and the nationwide effort to promote education on this decision of a lifetime.
Help Create a Donation Friendly America!
Each organ and tissue donor saves or improves the lives of as many as 50 people. Giving the "Gift of Life" may lighten the grief of the donor's own family. Many donor families say that knowing other lives have been saved helps them cope with their tragic loss.

I have created this page and the Donate Life Catonsville initiative because of a deep passion I have for the education and understanding of the importance of registration of organ and tissue donors and volunteerism throughout the world and here in our close knit Community of Catonsville in Baltimore County Maryland.
My passion for this education and registration effort arises out of the fact that I am a patient on the liver transplant waiting list at the University of MD Medical Center, and knowing all too well that the number of people on all transplant waiting lists far outnumbers the number of donated organs. I am but one of many people on various waiting lists for kidney, liver, pancreas, pancreas islet cell, intestine, heart, heart-lung, or lung transplants. As of March 30, 2008, over 2,300 people in Maryland, and close to 95,000 nationwide were on waiting lists. Therefore this is not a selfish wish of mine but a dream of the gift of life for thousands of fellow patients. Behind the word patients are real people with real family, real hopes, real dreams and unfortunately real pain and real suffering as individuals as well as within their family, extended families, coworkers, friends, congregations and other people they have come in contact with.
Donate Life Catonsville MD will be working in direct support of the Donate Life Maryland and the Living Legacy Foundation. This is the organ and tissue donation program serving the state of Maryland, with the exception of three counties (Charles, Montgomery, and Prince Georges).
Donate Life Maryland is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and enhancing lives by registering organ, eye and tissue donors. DLMD was established in 2007 by the Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland, the Medical Eye Bank of Maryland and Washington Regional Transplant Community.
In addition to having a heart on your driver's license or carrying a signed donor card, Donate Life Maryland now allows you to express your legal commitment to becoming an organ, eye and tissue donor securely on line. The Registry guarantees your wishes will be honored when you die.
Sign up today to become an organ, eye and tissue donor. Through your generous gifts, you can help as many as eight lives through organ donation, enhance another 50 through tissue donation, give the gift of renewed vision to two people and change the lives of millions through disease research and therapy.

Donate Life Catonsville will similarly celebrate the generous gifts of organ and tissue donors and educate others about the importance of registering as a donor. We invite you to learn how organ and tissue transplants help thousands of people each year!
You probably know someone who has received a second chance at life, an organ or tissue transplant!
Most candidates, except those with living donors, wait for an organ due to the shortage of donor organs. Because each candidate's situation is unique, waiting times can vary. Several factors are involved including:
• Organ type
• Blood type (some are rarer than others)
• Tissue type
• Height and weight of transplant candidate
• Size of donated organ
• Medical urgency
• Time on the waiting list
• The distance between the donor's hospital and the potential donor organ
• How many donors there are in the local area over a period of time and
• The transplant center's criteria for accepting organs offered.

If you currently are a registered organ and tissue donor, God Bless You for acknowledging the importance of the gift of life. Please be sure that you have shared your wishes clearly with your family, your doctor, friends and other associates so that this gift is made according to your decision.
Your donor intentions do not have to end here. Spread the word among your family, friends and those you come into contact with about the importance of why they should themselves become registered organ donors. You can also become part of a community based program, such as this one, to assist in the education and enrollment of new donors or simply help the local or regional organization in other ways by contacting them.
I will be in the process of updating the content of this site and continuing my interaction with the appropriate parent and sister organizations to properly determine what Donate Life Catonsville's needs will be. I welcome anyone from the community or elsewhere to show their support of this cause by becoming a friend of this initiative.
If you are interested in helping get this group off to a strong start and assuring that we become the best resource possible for providing relevant information on donation and educating our community on the importance of organ and tissue donation please feel free to message me. I will be putting out bulletins to update my progress with the site and this program. If you have any advice, opinion, insights or site requests please feel free to share by adding comments, commenting on bulletins or messaging me.
Donate Life Catonsville MD represents our community's strengths and heritage and I hope that our residents both young and old will show support for this site and effort. Whether you are currently a registered donor or not we want to hear from you, and help spread the word thoughout our streets. Thank you for your help.
If you are a transplant candidate, donor family or have had either of these impact your life and wish to share your story and experience with the community please message it to me and indicate that it is okay to share and I will add blogs to share your inspirations. Confidentiality will be maintained in any way you request. No identifiable information needs to be included depending on your wishes.
Did You Know??????????<
The organs that can be transplanted include the heart, intestine, kidney, liver, and pancreas.
Transplanted tissues include the skin, corneas, heart valves, blood stem cells, blood, and connective tissues (bone, tendons, cartilage and ligaments)
About 76 people receive organ transplants every day in the United States, however.....About 18 people die each day waiting for a transplant.
If your fmily does not know of your decision to be an organ and tissue donor, it is likely they will say no to donation if asked to make the decision for you. Talk to your family, friends, doctor, and others about your decision to donate.
Organs that can be donated while donors are alive include the kidney, blood stem cells, or parts of the liver, lung, pancreas and intestine.
Today, more than 93,000 patients are waiting for a transplant, over 2,300 in Maryland.
In 2005, there were 6,895 living organ donations made between donors and recipients. Kidney donation is the most common living organ donation.
Thanks for the request. It's cool to see someone working hard to raise awareness! Kudos to you! :D
Breaking news! Odin’s Court has just signed to ProgRock Records!
You can preorder the new CD Deathanity as of today.
Deathanity is the latest effort from Odin’s Court, a Maryland, USA band. Deathanity is an ambitious concept album dealing with the effects mankind’s actions are having on the planet. Alternate views are offered through the use of instrumentation, lyrics, sound effects, and various vocal clips. Ambience, dynamics, and soul are combined with complexity, groove, and energy in a song oriented structure, to create a unique, surreal landscape. Each song, dealing with a different theme, is accompanied by a newly created word and definition in the album art. Special guest vocalists include Tom Englund (Evergrey) and Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica).
