If you could save a life, would you?
NEW JERSEY HERO ACT SIGNED INTO LAW! THANK YOU for helping to make organ and tissue donation history in New Jersey. With the help of your letters and support, Senate President and Acting Governor Richard Codey signed the New Jersey Hero Act into law on July 22, 2008. Most importantly, this bill will enable us to have a critically-needed online registry and mandatory organ donation education in colleges, high schools, medical, and nursing schools. Please see the link for more information. We can’t thank you enough for helping us make a difference! If you'd like to help us bring organ donation education to your college, please contact Jessica Melore at jessicam@sharenj.org. Please see the link below for more information on the bill: http://donatelifenj.org/news/BillSigning.htm
Over 100,000 people are waiting for a transplant in the U.S. Over 4,500 of them are living in NJ. Every day 19 more names are added to the list.
Did you know 7,000 people died last year because they didn't receive an organ in time?
These people didn’t die from an incurable disease. Each one of them could have been saved, if more people made the donor designation.
It's time to take action!
1. YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE is the best way to sign up. EVERY TIME you apply for or renew your license, you'll be asked the question. Visit www.state.nj.us/mvc to find your nearest location.
2. VISIT www.DonateLifeNJ.org to sign up to be notified when our online registry is up and running (hopefully soon!)
3.TELL YOUR FAMILY. While 90% of the U.S. believes donation is a good thing, most families don’t take the time to share their wishes with each other.
4.SPREAD THE WORD. Encourage others to register and save lives, and encourage them to join this group!

Body: As many of you are already aware, National Donate Life Month is observed during April. It is a time when we step up our efforts to increase organ donation awareness. This year there is a new initiative called “Flags Across America” in which Organ Procurement Organizations are encouraging transplant centers, transplant recipients, hospitals, workplace partners, donor families and anyone interested in promoting the importance of organ donation to participate. To make the public aware of the extreme need for more organ donors, Donate Life America is selling flags and we are encouraging our contacts to fly them throughout the month of April. To see the different flags, please visit the site - http://www.donatelife.net/catalog/
They range in cost from a car flag at $8 to a garden flag at $12 to a larger flag at $25. You can order them directly off the site. Order NOW so they arrive in time to fly them in April.
Thank you!

"To remember me"
The day will come when my body will lie upon a white sheet neatly tucked under four corners of a mattress located in a hospital busily occupied with the living and the dying. At a certain moment a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has ended. When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. And don’t call this my deathbed. Let it be called the bed of life, and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.
Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby’s face or love in the eyes of a woman.
Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain.
Give my blood to the teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play.
Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week.
Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk.
Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window.
Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow.
If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my weaknesses and all prejudice against my fellow man.
Give my sins to the devil.
Give my soul to God.
If, by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you.
If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.

It is now time for me to move on
Into the dusk, but also the dawn.
I will remain as the morning comes
As I've left behind a gift for someone.
So another may walk, may talk, may see
Where their life was locked, I offered a key.
I am a donor to someone in need,
My final gift, my final deed.
