Doncaster Rovers Football Club will celebrate reaching our first ever major Cup final by releasing the new club anthem "Out of the Darkness" on Monday 26th March - 6 days before we appear in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Sunday 1st April.
Rovers secured their place in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Final with a thrilling 3 - 2 win over Crewe Alexandra at the Keepmoat Stadium on February 12th and are now releasing the song on CD and download in the run up to our big cup final match.
John Parr
"Out of the Darkness" has been written and recorded for the club by Grammy-nominated songwriter John Parr, probably best known for his 1980's number 1 single "St Elmo's Fire". John is a long standing Rovers fan who has remained loyal to his South Yorkshire roots despite finding fame and fortune in the USA, and is a regular spectator at Rovers games - when he has the time to attend!
"Out of the Darkness"
Originally produced to celebrate the club's move to the new Keepmoat Stadium at the start of 2007, the song is now played to herald the entry of the teams onto the pitch at the start of each home match. It is being put on general sale on Monday 26th March as a 4-track CD which also includes a karaoke version of the song, and another track "Dream On" which was written by John Parr in tribute to Rovers legend Alick Jeffrey for the Farewell to Belle Vue banquet dinner staged last November.
Out of the Darkness into the charts!
Rovers have today received a boost in the "Countdown to Cardiff" with the John Parr anthem "Out of the Darkness" currently sitting in the number 2 position on the HMV Digital "Current Favourites" chart.
Following yesterday's official launch at HMV Doncaster, the single is now available to buy and download and Rovers fans have obviously been rushing to purchase their copy of the new club anthem.
A glance at the favourites lists shows 'Out of the Darkness' lying at number 2 - above a number of worldwide artists including Mika, Christina Aguilera, Nelly Furtado and Razorlight. In the overall HMV download chart the song sits at number 22 ahead of songs such as "Shine" by Take That and "Read My Mind" by The Killers.
The club are hoping that the single will sell enough copies this week to make an entry in the Official UK Top 40 chart on Sunday afternoon - just hours after the JPT Final is scheduled to end. If everything goes to plan on Sunday then it will be a double celebration for Rovers fans with a major domestic trophy to show off and the official club song making the national singles chart.
