I'm Patrick Brown, I'm from Belfast, I'm a cartoonist, and I reckon if I'm going to have this page I might as well keep it up to date.
My webcomic, The Ulster Cycle, has been running for over a year. It's an adaptation of a group of stories from Irish legend about the heroes of the Ulaid, the people who gave their name to Ulster.
The first storyline, "Ness", is now complete, and a print edition is in preparation. When the king of Ulster is powerless to stop a murderous outlaw, his daughter Ness turns outlaw herself to hunt him down. But with war looking between the kingdoms of Ireland, will ber father's house still be there to come back to when the job's done?
The next story is the big one: "The Cattle Raid of Cooley". Adapted from Táin Bó Cúailnge, the nearest Ireland has produced to an epic. Medb, queen of Connacht, invades Ulster at the head of a huge army to steal the stud bull Donn Cúailnge, and destroy the king of Ulster, Ness's son Conchobar. The only Ulsterman available to oppose her is Conchobar's sixteen-year-old nephew Cú Chulainn.
"The Cattle Raid of Cooley" begins weekly serialisation on my blog on Wednesday 6 August 2008. Check out the blog for further updates!
