DEMONSTRATING VERBAL SPEECH = DVS! DEO FAVENTE = GOD’S FAVOUR!! DVS aka Deo Favente was born in Oxford City aka (Rox-ford City) England. At the age of 5 years old DVS moved to America with his Mother baby Sister and Step Father who was in U.S Air Force, to Cleveland Ohio, New York, Huston, Florida, the Netherlands, and the Philippines. In the late 70’s and early 80’s he was exposed to many types of music and sounds, such as Rick James, Earth Wind & Fire, Millie Jackson, Mary Jane Girls, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. Then rap came along and blew his mind, rappers such as Kurtis Blow Sugar Hill Gang, Grandmaster Flash, Mellie Mel & the Furious Five the Treacherous 3, Busy Bee and many more. DVS started developing his artistic skills and musical ability as a child growing up in America and his Caribbean roots added a unique blend to his rapping and singing style where his he mastered reggae toasting. On his return back to the UK in 1986 DVS perfected his musical & lyrical skills, throughout Oxford, London, Reading and High Wycombe; he recorded his first studio tracks with DJ MSD Shoot 2 Kill and Ruff n Dangerous. These two tracks were ahead of its time for 88/89 (see website and download for free www.touchwoodrecord.co.uk) where you clearly hear DVSs American influence but most of all DVS embodied what it is to be a true MC by writing both tracks off the top of head no pen no pad. DVS says where ever you live, where ever your environment is, it will always have an impact and influence on who you are as a person as well as an artist, as long as you stay true to you, you don’t have to worry about the haters! For DVS is tired of explaining to UK MC’s that he does not sound like a US rapper or a UK rapper he sound like himself that his background is UK, NYC and Vincy so if you listen carefully you will know that it is he…cuz everyone can detect a fake accent and DVS is so natural and flow so flawless! Throughout the mid 80’s to the early 90’s DVS : Recorded first demos and white label press, Shoot Kill & Ruff and Dangerous, ( hip-hop ) Produced by DJ MSD Lyrics written by DVS, at Union Street Studio’s Oxford, the liveliest MC ever with Jazzy D, Bizzy B, and MSD for ZONE 3 Sound System, Underground Movement, DJ specialist and live entertainer at Minchery Farm Nightclub, Barns Court, Parish hall, Silver Band Hall Roots Club, Caribbean Club, Jericho Tavern, Crown Street James Street, battled a crew called Fresh 4 who featured a unknown lyricist named Tricky from Bristol, joined Jammatone a Ragga Sound System as a MC, Singer, and DJ, worked with some of the top reggae sounds in the UK, as a lyrical specialist for sound clashes, worked with Sir notch, Yard Force, Sweet Sensation, First Class, Classic Harmony Youth Man Country Man, Sovereign Wassifa Street Level and shared the same stage as Macka B. During the early 90’s and mid 90’s the rave scene came and took away a lot of mans brains with the drug epidemic where a lot of peoples were not true to hip hop and the ragga scene in the UK. So DVS stopped writing hip-hop and ragga lyrics and started concentrating on singing and song writing for he was so disillusioned with the music scene in the UK where BLACK artist found it extremely hard to get signed by Major Labels and it is the same today. DVS moved with the times and Worked with West Hampstead studio’s in London, recorded Ghetto Luv & Call me Daddy, R&B style, recorded a euro pop rap for Altman Production Germany called Sound of the Underground, worked with O2 Production songwriters for commercials, for TV and radio, recorded demos, alternative dance music style’ Red Rose, How Far, Dreams and the acoustic song Party 203, and it was not till 98 that DVS started rapping again in freestyle cipher in North London with MSD, Unusual Suspects Bigger Man, Freddy Kruger, and many more. 1999 DVS fell back in love with rapping being a MC again and felt that being in London and in the UK wasn’t going get him to where he wanted to be, because he felt within his heart that UK record companies do not really support Black Artist in this country. So DVS was brave enough to hop on a plane and go to Nagoya in Japan where his skills and ability was instantly recognised. DVSs natural MCing skills are of the highest grade which has given him local to international respect where he has toured Japan as a DJ, Rapper, Ragga DJ and Fashion model in Nagoya & Osaka, he has performed at some of Japan’s hottest nightclubs promotional parties, several radio stations and worked with some the hottest underground DJs, rappers from all over the world which resulted in DVS recording his first single release with Acmedia Records with DJ Caujoon” (Dance 2 Dis 2000) which sold over 4000 copies in 2 months which was a big look for a independent label. DVS also appeared in many top magazines such as Spymaster & AR magazines and the second largest Radio Station in Japan (Zip FM) Nightclubs like Pleasure Zone, Emporium, Lush Underground, JB’s, Scald, in Nagoya Japan and at Don Flex Osaka where DJ Cash Money Maseo from Dela Soul Speech from Arrested Development DJ NGL & Bazaro all performed. DVS then went on to Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn NYC to work with Two late Productions and recorded some the hottest catchiest tracks to show case on his return back to the UK (2001) (check those tracks out on the website: www.touchwoodrecords.co.uk : DVS Returned to the UK, shopped demos he recorded in Brooklyn New York to many different labels in the UK like Def Jam, Mercury, and Parlaphone between 2001 and 2003 so in 2004 DVS had no choice but to set up his own record label” Touchwood Records ltd.” Which was and is still is so much hard work. DVS 1st release the Redeye/DVS is Like which received great reviews by Ryan Procter in Blues & Soul magazine 2004 April edition featuring Amy Winehouse. 2005 DVS shot 2 videos with Broken Antler production the videos were Rox-ford City and Redeye Anthem. That same year DVS release to Redeye anthem Video on Ben TV on SKY and was interviewed on Knight Flows music show which got nation and worldwide exposure and also performed live in Stonebridge London organised by Peaches Hosted by Digical a London radio Presenter at the rise in the community. DVS shared the same stage as artist like, General Levy, L.O.C, Gappy Ranks, Stixman, Skrilla Kidz, Sunncylce and Slim Dutty and many more. DVS has been on all the following radio stations in the UK Unique FM, Beat FM and Bashment FM. James Hyman XFM 104.9FM, De Ja Vu 92.3FM, Bass line 97.9FM, Xtreme 101.7FM, Solar Radio (Nationwide); All FM (North West); Time FM (East Anglia) 2006 he finally release Rox-ford City which is a track symbolising where he comes from in Oxford and it shows a different side to Oxford that people around the world don’t really know or hear about, the council estates like Rose Hill, Barton, Wood Farm, Cowley and Blackbird leys, so DVS is the first MC from Oxford to ever release a music video nation wide on popular music channels representing Oxford City aka Rox-ford City the R stands for REAL.That same summer the Rox-ford City Video Premiered on Channel U where it was in rotation on Channel U for 6months this was a great and momentous moment in his career where he finally had a little recognition for his talent in the UK.
