Don Meers is an electronic producer who is not only a filmmaker himself, but whose highly evocative music has been chosen by many others to feature in soundtracks. He has worked as a composer for film and television himself, while his albums for the Groovescooter label have long been lauded for their filmic quality, whether it's the frenetic electro-jazz of his early releases, the lush downbeat ambiences of his much praised LP Train Noise, or the more vocal heavy, apocalyptic turns of his latest album Splint. Splint masterfully draws all his moody tangents together in a rush of electronics, samples, jazz drumming and fragile, poetic acoustics. Meers early live shows are still talked about - when double bass, samplers, keys and guitar collided - however in more recent years, he turned his vision towards solo laptop and visuals shows, which took a more ambient approach. He has now retired from live shows completely to focus more heavily on film production. In the meantime he continues to create moody music, remix other artists, collaborate with others and turn out intriguing music arrangements, such as his recent reworking of the James Bond Theme. His most recent collaborations have been with Inga Liljestrom and Melbourne's All India Radio. A remix album called Track Works also saw many of his compositions remixed by others, including one of his earliest releases for Groovescooter, a masterful remake of the theme from the Six Million Dollar Man. However it is his original compositions which continue to draw interest and be licensed for films and televsion.
