if you like the song playing on my profile page , its called BEST I EVER HAD by STATE OF SHOCK who recently participated in our doll charity project, and who's new album, Life Love and Lies is available for digital download now.
I have many interests, the main ones being writing, photography and music ... but have quirky interests too like - I enjoy cutting the grass; go figure. I'm also interested in the bigger picture, like: whats happening in the world, extreme poverty, fair trade, making a difference while I'm here.
Music
I like a wide variety of genres and what I'm doing often dictates what I listen to - Ambient for writing, Rock for walking, Experimental or Pop for inspiration when doing 'hands on' work etc... music I enjoy includes (but is not limited to): U2, Why, Seether, Drowning Pool,Pete Levin, classical,U2,Marotta/Griesgraber, Don Schiff, Jim Weider, E.S.Posthumus, Brent Bourgeois, Audioslave, Tom Cochrane,Daniel Lanois, U2, Ultra Vox, Pet Shop Boys, Viggo Mortensen + Buckethead, Kanye West, Tony Levin Band, Liane Floy, U2, Tea Party, Alice in Chains, Extreme, Todd Rundgren, St. Germain, Sigur Ros, Enigma, Moby,U2, Depeche Mode, Cranberries, Brian Eno, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, U2, old old old David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, State of Shock, Creed, Collective Soul, Chris Cornell, Supreme Beings of Leisure, 54*40, Tragically Hip, Tears for Fears, Third Day, Newsboys, Caedmon's Call, Rankin Family, Great Big Sea, Arcade Fire, did i say U2?

Movies
I'm not much for spending 2 hrs of my life in a movie theatre and paying for it especially as there don't seem to be any good movies lately, but among my top favorites: Lord of the Rings trilogy, Lawrence of Arabia, The Dark, History of Violence, Empire of the Sun, Always. I also like off the wall stuff like Trainspotting, Road to Saddle River, the Big Empty, Being John Malkcovitch, The Gods must be Crazy, Equilibrium ...
New York
Television
not much use for TV; I'd rather spend my time online, reading or doing other things. I do however, like to watch Home Improvement shows and I think Corner Gas is hilarious.
Dublin
Books
I'm a voracious reader - and I own too many books.
I tend to read fiction before bed to quiet my loud brain - old murder mysteries like Rex Stout's Nero Wolf, Ngaio Marsh, Agatha Christie. Historical fiction like Hornblower, and Bernard Cornwell's Richard Sharpe (made famous by actor Sean Bean). I also reread Lord of the Rings yearly.
I've just started getting into reading non-fiction (usually while travelling etc): Jeffrey Sachs 'End of Poverty', 'Geldoff in Africa', 'Bono in Conversation' by Michka Assayas, 'U2 by U2', Stephen Lewis 'Race Against Time', 'Mountains beyond Mountains' (the story of Dr. Paul Farmer) I'm finding these books not only fascinating and educational, but so very easy to read and understand.
Books have been my best friend my entire life... they have helped shape who I am, how I think, how I write and speak.
Heroes
I dont really have 'heroes' but people who have inspired me include:
--Bono - for using his celebrity as 'currency' as he pushes the G8 leaders to make Trade Fair and do something about HIV in Africa.
--Tom Cochrane - Canada's 'bono' who works tirelessly behind the scenes with little recognition for it, and who with his down to earth-ed-ness and no ego just keeps plugging away regardless. Tom you inspire me to keep going.
--Brian Cook - for his friendship and wisdom and his unending fight against poverty even when it costs him on a personal level.Dont ever give up the fight my friend
--The Edge - for his committment to friends and family, and his work in New Orleans with Katrina victims (Music Rising).
-Tina in Belgium
-my husband
-Margaret in Wisconsin
-and my grandfather who only made it to grade 4 but who was the smartest man i've ever known...
About me: Creativity is the core of my being; it drives me to perfection, dictates my hobbies, pushed me into my job choices and won't leave me alone at night long enough to fall asleep at a decent hour!
I'm a photographer, an artist, a bad musician, a writer, a web creator, a knitter, and more. I’m always dabbling in something new just to try it out, but my main passions are photography, music and writing.
I'm a freelance photographer:
I shoot promo and concert shots for local bands (for their Myspace, Facebook, posters etc), as well as supply bands with photos for album art, cd release parties and the like. I'm also currently experimenting with video production. You can find my gallery HERE
I'm also the official photographer (and founder) of the Comfort Doll Project - a local charity project that elicits photos from musicians and bands, to auction for charity.
I'm a writer:
I currently freelance for The Portal Magazine, DLTSP, and Rockstar Weekly online magazines; band and artist interviews, concert photography and reviews, and album reviews.
I also write my own music blog nightMair Creative conducting concert reviews and blogging about my favorite bands etc.
My current favorite bands/music include:
* U2 (always and forever U2)
* Pete Levin -the only Jazz I like so far
* Tom Cochrane - I’m just discovering Tom at this late stage in my life too, thanks to a new album last year which I’m still listening to daily
* Collective Soul - I’ve just re-discovered them, and they put out a new album last year.. they’re working on another right now (excited - yes)
* State of Shock - in the same vein as most new rock bands, but they have style and charm, as well as a good head on their collective shoulders - and no egos.
* Seether -harder edge but gritty lyrics that emotionally move me
* Bob Lanois
* Daniel Lanois (U2 producer but a great musician himself with many albums out)
* Marotta/Griesgraber - Jerry and Tom - ambient drum and chapman stick makes for a killer mix
I’m always on the look out for new stuff that moves me; moves me enough to make me want to buy it and play it often. A friend of mine says this about music:
“I’m constantly buying records, which I love. I would feel strange if I didn’t. I’d feel left out or something. There’s good music out there - you just have to open yourself up to it and invite it in, and it’ll show up. That’s what I do.”
I’m trying, my friend, I’m trying. And it’s showing up.
I have many people wanting to friend me. I don't mind - I’m here to network and get to know people… but I’m not into 'collecting' as many friends as I can. We should have at least one or two thngs in common before I'm going to say yes.
If you friend request me I always go look at your profile before saying yes. I’m going to say no if:
-- you don’t have any blog entries
-- your profile is set to private
-- your profile takes forever to load (overly heavy graphics)
-- is full of spam comments you haven’t cleared away
Basically if you aren’t on your Myspace enough to take care of it, I don’t see how you'll be here enough for us to become ‘friends’.
If you're a Band that I do friend, you might want to consider being friended at our 'Official' Comfort Doll Myspace as well as consider participating in our project.
Who I'd like to meet: Brian Cook from WHY the band, Pete Levin, Daniel Lanois, Bono and Edge (again) Larry and Adam, Dallas Schoo (Edge's guitar tech) and Rachel from the U2 crew, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Bean, Jeff Sachs, Tony Blair, my sponsor children, my grandfather one last time.
Hello Donna, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I did frame the picture of Sam Roberts, now I need to buy the right size nail to hang it. I am a bit of a procrastinator. Suffering miserably with allergies more than ever this year, but still life is good. I hope that you and your husband are very well. Have you put your boat in the water yet? All the best to you. Brenda
WE'RE BACK :) We've started our penny drive for the Vancouver Food Bank and hope you have an empty pickle jar earmarked for us/Jeff O'Neil/Vancouver food bank. 8 months can generate some serious copper-age!
I went to read your article, but when I click on the current issue, I still get the February issue. So I'll try later on in the day! Very cool, you getting so many articles published, but I'm not surprised -- you've always been a great writer! <3
