| About Don Trent |
|
Within each of us lies the ability for greatness. For most it remains a dream, but for a few it's DESTINY! Trent was born to make music. From early on in his life, he gravitated towards music as a way of self -expression. Melodies were in him; lyrics defined him.
Born in Georgetown Guyana, his hometown only had a few outlets for his eclectic fusion of music –soca, dancehall and pop. But a church choir, a choral, and a band, provided him with sufficient opportunities to further develop the music in him and prepare him for his musical destiny.
At 19, he migrated to Barbados, the land of emerging international singers. Barbados offered Trent both the opportunity to attend university and concentrate on his music. In Barbados, Trent was now afforded the chance to put music to the songs in his songbook by allowing him to link up with established producers.
Over a two-year period, that included, songwriting, recording, collaborating, and performing, Trent began his evolution into the artist Barbadians, particularly Barbadian females, grew to love.
By 21, the 'eye candy' as he is affectionately called, would release a smash song, "Me and You" which would put his name on the lips and his image on the minds of soca fans in the Caribbean, The United States, England and Canada. The song represented the essence of Trent and his sound. It was soulful, sexy and clever. It was a perfect marriage. The song moved into heavy rotation soon after its release.
The commercial success of "Me and You" had put the spotlight on Trent. He had a core fan base; a nomination for a Barbados Music Award; established managers offering him contracts; artists asking him for songs; VP Records licensing his song for their new compilation; and, two International Soca Music Award nominations (Best New Artist and Best Male Soca Vocalist). With his infectious smile, intoxicating vocals, smooth performances, and sweet melodies, Trent has become synonymous with a new type of soca artist…the full package.
By 2008, in an effort to fully capitalize on the momentum his career received from the success of "Me and You," Trent decided to put law school on pause. This year, he has released two songs: "Hannah" and "Dangerous." Early indicators are pointing to Trent further establishing himself as our new favourite soca artist with his soca/dancehall/pop fused music. And just where does Trent want to go from here? The dreadlock singer articulates emphatically, "the world! I want the world to sing my songs!"
Remember this name…TRENT
