DONUTS is a night that is an all-inclusive space for artists/musicians/djs/designers of all kind, to get together in one intimate location to appreciate eachother and provide dance party entertainment to the local community.You will not hear the same Smiths and Joy Division songs you hear at every other club, playing over and over, and your hips will be given music to shake to all night long that your ears may or may not have already heard.
The records played at DONUTS focuses on obscure as well as classic music from all over the world from '77 to the present with dance-able beats and an underground and/or punk rearing. Bands booked include up-and-coming local bands as well as touring
bands; all of whom share similar influences yet may execute their sound in different unique ways. DONUTS is a celebration and a statement of a radical resurrection of the life of the party that has seemingly, sadly started to creep away from San Francisco nightlife. Let's bring it back collectively!

DONUTS was started by people who wanted a club night that was not only a fun dance place to go to and dance to dj's, but also a venue where independent bands, visual artists, and independent fashion designers could collaborate together to bring something new, fresh, and fun to San Francisco nightlife that people can go to every month.
Come out to the KNOCKOUT! every month for:

Many of the artists, designers, and djs are directly involved with many local bands, record labels, parties, collective organizations, and dj nights.
Alison Childs, resident video/visuals artist currently pursues experimentation of cosmic contracts and light beam renderings in the video realm. She has created live video projection for music performances as well as music videos for bands such as Trans Am, Antelope, Tussle, Skaters, Black Fiction, and Zombi. She has also been working on the movie, Bad Date, with The Husbands' Sadie Shaw. Be sure to claim witness to her depth defying projections at the next DONUTS.
Kat Matutina, also known as dJ Pickpocket, began dj'ing in San Francisco in 2003 with the dj crew New Hormones with fellow dj J.A.W.S. Together, they played records ranging from left-field disco, post punk, white dub, mutant disco, old school hip-hop and no wave to chicago house and baltimore breaks. The name New Hormones came about after the inspiration from obscure Manchester band Ludus as well as the idea that "nothing starts a party like taking off the pants." After a few underwear dance parties they realized that dj'ing in their skivvies made people more comfortable to "get loose" and often times, join the pantless parade. Focusing on house parties and cruise ships, they later began a night called MEGATONE (named after Megatone records, an old disco label) that ended in 2005. Pickpocket is now a resident dj for pirate radio station WAR 93.7, as well as club nights INTERNATIONAL HITS (international funk, disco and psych from the 60's-70's) and DANGERZONE (reggae-rocksteady-dancehall-dub night). She also dj's many band shows including shows with seminal dub-punk band THE SLITS and London '77 punk band THE HOMOSEXUALS in New York. Pickpocket is a resident dj for DONUTS every month!
The Knockout is located at 3223 Mission st. where Valencia meets it. It is next to Taqueria Cancun in the Mission/Bernal border, not far from Cesar Chavez st. in beautiful San Francisco.
