I am a solo artist although I occasionally have friends join me on stage. I perform some songs with a phrase sampler. This allows me to lay down a bass line with a drum machine track, build guitar parts on top of that, and then sing while playing lead. My recordings are all me except the drum machine.
Influences
Singer-songwriters like Paul Simon and James Taylor and bluesmen like Keb Mo and Guy Davis. Probably the Beatles are my biggest band influence because of their wonderful songs. Much of this is determined by my being a solo performer.
Sounds Like
Well, I'd like to think that I sound like a combination of my favorite singer songwriters: James Taylor, Keb Mo, Paul Simon, and Guy Davis. Realistically, I'm much like any guitar-playing singer that you hear in the local bar or coffee shop - probably a little older :-) I have a clear voice and better-than-average finger-picking skills. Listen to my music and tell me what you think!
I am a performing songwriter from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. My day job is Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at The University of Alabama - a truly great gig. I teach chemical reactions and conduct research on fuel cells and the hydrogen economy. I love to play guitar and sing, write and record songs. About once a week I get out to a bar or coffee house for an open mic or solo performance.

Sneak Preview for Last Call
Claire and I have returned from our 3 months EU& UK tour. (begging) Will you visit my profile page to help me spread the word, pretty please??? We have a sneak preview of the new album (Produced by Malcolm Burn, Mastered by Greg Calbi) up for 5 days only… and it can be bought within the next 5 days only!
Doobie! I'll be in T-Town at least once a week the rest of the year working on my songs for my upcoming rawk band with the invaluable aid of incomprable Yard Dog Chris J. Looking forward to hangin' with ya.
I Love your son, Charles' camera work on "Doobie and the Yard Dogs" (posted on You Tube! NOtice how he focuses on the musicians' hands! A True Guitar Player. adam
I love "Run Away" except that it reminds me of Capture. I'll be back in town in August, hope to see you at Songwriter's night and elsewhere. BTW-I have a few of my songs online, just so ya' know.
I LOVED writing the article about you! It's a great story - and you're very talented! Keep up the good work - Hopefully I can write more and more Doobie news!
What's up Doobie. I hope all is well. I'll be playing The Mellow Mushroom this Thursday night. I hope you get to come out. Love the music you put up. Peace* Ricky
