DOO DAH PARADE – July 4

< (Columbus) The nearly historic DisOrganizers of the 26th Annual Doo Dah Parade are reaching out to all of Central Ohio’s local indie artists, rockers, bankers, bikers, lawyers, poets, politicians, weather-persons, residents, observers, potential celebrities, dog-lovers or otherwise interested parties to join us for the nation’s greatest, and oldest, continual Fourth of July parade.

DOO DAH is just around the corner! We’re accepting all citizens and aliens brave enough to declare their allegiance to oddity, wave the flags of Free Speech, rock out in the streets… and take the time to pimp out their ride (or bodies) into a hot, yet irreverent, display for the 26th DOO DAH parade.

This event is among the finest cultural-clash events of the year, and we expect a record crowd to celebrate all that is artistic, sarcastic and marginally witty. On July 4th, march with us and the Less-Than-Grand Marshall.

What's the Fourth of July without a parade? That's how it all got started. The City of Columbus did not have a Fourth of July parade on the Fourth, so a bunch of witty and whacky (and maybe under the influence) guys & gals, proded by Gregory Carr, got together and marched around the neighborhood, circling trees banging on pots and pans and playing the kazoos and singing the Doo Dah song...thus the birth of the Doo Dah Parade! Tradition played on annually on the Fourth of July with a parade to celebrate liberty & lunacy.

It's political puns at its finest, Wackiness at it's wildest, and Tackiest as tape! In 1994, 1995, 1996 the parade was cancelled due to water wars and mishaps of 1993. However, renegades lead on by the Emperor Doug Ritchey and The Doo Dah Queen…Mz Doo Dah..Deb Roberts, refused to let the Doo Dah Parade die. "We don't need no stinking permit" Shouted a Fidel. "Let's march!" screamed the Emperor, and away we went...until the police "suggested" that we DO get a permit for 1997.

Alas! Mz Doo Dah was handed the baton in 1997 to Chair the Doo Dah Parade. With some of the old and a new team of DisOrganized creative people, we've continued on the pursuant of Doo Dah.

The Doo Dah Parade is always on July 4th at 1:00 p.m. Line-up is at noon. Rain Date July 3rd (that is a joke for those who didn't get it). There is no entry free...just show up! No Registration is required!! Parade Route is the Short North, Victorian Village and Italian Village. After the Annual Doo Dah Parade on July 4, 2009, head on to Buttles Avenue between High Street and Park Street for a whopping great time.
