doodlebug is the brain child of artist curator michael barnes-wynters (aka barney!).moving from his hometown of bristol back '89, doodlebug's debut event in '94 presented the unknown dj shadow and dj krush...headz session(mo wax records)
in its wake, a series of inspirational introductions to new music and words spoken were unleashed onto fertile mancunian ground.spaces and places.
during this time doodlebug provided a platfrom for unknown artists the likes of as mr. scruff, andy votel and alison david to develop and explore their creative practices.
INTERNATIONAL DOODLEBUG DAY (IDD: 99-06. R.I.P) was its critically acclaimed, annual celebration of graphic illustration. initially held simmultaneously in manchester, london and tokyo IDD nurtured talent the likes of pete fowler and gave rise to the scrawl collective whilst introducing the uk's first street art expo at urbis in 2003.now at the tate modern ( 2008)
doodlebug presents...was given birth in june 2001 with a unique perfomance of japanese butoh by tokyo artist ken mai.
since then an indescriminate series of presentations at various venues in manchester, london and beyond have inspired many.
it remains a gem of intimately provocative mindfood, smeared with a wonky mix of live music: movement: short films: dramatic extracts juxtaposed debate, sneaky whispers...and food.
