Based out of Albany, NY, Doomsday Virus began as the industrial-edged solo project of former "twilights mistress" guitarist, n.dru, who relocated to the area from Buffalo in early 2001. Here he would spend two years working with an aspiring producer, Mark Stagliano, on the project's first collection of demos entitled "The Cries of All Things Left Unsaid".
Shortly thereafter, the duo introduced a full-time guitarist, jøhn, into the fold and, in 2004, recorded the politically charged "Fallout EP". Subsequent promotion of the EP garnered attention for the band on both national and international levels as requests for interviews, shows, and copies of "Fallout" rolled in from as far away as The Netherlands, South Africa and Malaysia.
n.dru and jøhn would remain in the studio for the next 6 months working on the next Doomsday Virus release, 2005's "Catastrophic Error". By this time Mark had gone on to found the industrial/ebm label "Static Sky Records" and was unable to continue his work with the band. It was at this point that the band recruited p4wl to assume live keyboard duties and spent the summer rehearsing material for live shows.
In September 2005, for the first time, Doomsday Virus took the stage opening for goth rock legends "The Last Dance". The next year and a half would be spent roaming around the northeast opening for such acts as Psyclon 9, Android Lust, Still Life Decay, and Brainclaw. Fueled in part by the intensity of their live shows, the band saw their fanbase begin to grow and they soon scored appearances on two compilations CDs. In late 2005 the track "Catastrophic Error" appeared on the Static Sky Records "Electro/R/Evolution Volume 1" compilation. Shortly thereafter, "Marked for Deletion" landed a spot on the 2006 Dark Horizons Radio compilation entitled "Hunter's Moon".
In 2007, with the pressure of their newly expanded fanbase upon them, Doomsday Virus retreated to the studio and began work on new material. They were dealt a brief setback when jøhn announced his separation from the band. The remaining members made little haste recruiting their friend, a creative and imaginative metal guitarist named raHb, to fill the vacancy. In only a few short weeks raHb had learned the entire live set, branded it with his own dark, dramatic flair, and played his first show with the band instantly winning over the established fan base.
Although the guitarist switch set the band back a few months in their writing and recording schedule nobody was complaining. They had essentially taken one step back in order to take 3 steps forward. The songs being written now are as dance-able as they are heavy, as dark as they are catchy, and still as genre-defiant as ever.
Demo CD's of new material were pressed and made available to industry insiders in early 2008, but the Virus isn't waiting around to see if anyone has the balls to take a gamble on them. They remain in the studio writing even more tracks with the intention of dropping a full length release on the unexpecting masses by the end of the year.
