Who is Doppel-U?
Doppel-U is a German artist and HipHop head.
Back in 1996 he was playing b-ball with his fellas and they listened to Naughty By Nature. He enjoyed that kinda music from the first beat on.
But it took Doppel-U three more years before he got close to the mic. His kick off came in 1999 on Europes biggest Hip Hop Festival Splash, when he saw people standing in line to get on the mic to kick their freestyle. Without thinking about what he got in line too. Until that day he didnt really listen to German Rap music but that was the time when the spark of enthusiasm for the German scene jumped across.
Of course there where people who told him he got no talent, but he went on and on. So he took part in different collabos over the last six years and became a name in his area.
He also supported artists like Dendemann, Spax and RZA.
In 2005 he dropped his first own album called Zeitgeist (The Spirit Of Age) on his own label U-Quadrat. On this record he turned the poems of Friedrich Schiller, a great German poet who died 200 years ago, into rap music. He couldnt believe that Schiller already wrote his poems on 95bpm. And so Doppel-U made the brazen decision as far as HipHop goes to choose this one as his deput album. Because he believes in Rap and Powerful Words.
As a result of his album he went on tour in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Belaruss, Portugal, and also Sweden and his success is going on (Europe 2008). But Zeitgeist is not his only project. He took part of the "Soundscan Skillz Contest" hosted by www.rap.de and Radio Top 40 and took 3rd place.
At the moment he works on the project "Rap macht Schule" and brings classic rap Schiller closer to the kids in the schools. This leads to an alternative way in teaching and so poetry and music get combined.
He's still writing and recording. The next result is coming out soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
