Who I'd like to meet: The Corsican music enjoys the favour of the public and the international media today. Until now, it is essentially the polyphonic groups which held attention, making appreciate the wealth of the island vocal expressions.
It is rarer, even in Corsica, to hear some instrumental music or some vocal music accompanied with popular instruments.
Nevertheless our island possesses an important tradition of violin, mandolin, accordion and it keeps living the set,of the most diverse instruments, the flutes (pifana, pirula), anche ( cialamedda ), cetra ( cistre ) and percussions common to the Mediterranean countries, the drums and the triangles.
This rich tradition is threatened by the disappearance of the last agents of this musical knowledge today, and it is the perpetuity of a whole piece of our culture Which seems to collapse.
It is this report which is at the origin of the birth, in 1998, of DOPU CENA.
This association exactly gave itself for purpose the promotion of the popular knowledges, the use of the instrumental and vocal expressions of yesterday to make the current music.
It was not a question of forming a folk, secondary group of museums calcified a reconstituted heritage(holdings).It is the ambition of his members that to maintain living beings the popular forms bound to the song and to the music to be danced of Corsica.
But the energy which animates the DOPU CENA association can be similar on no account to a step purist, a search for the virtuosity either another an endless collection of roots. We do not play the musics of yesterday to make " attractive " or pure maintain some nostalgia.
We think of having a pointed consciousness of the at the same moment specific and universal character of our heritage. And it is a current music on the bases of our musical tradition which we want to promote, at the end to maintain our identity.
So the patronymic of our association dresses for us a very particular sense anchored in the memory and the practice of the Corsican people: DOPU CENA ' " after the dinner ", in the evening, this privileged moment of division and communion which today tends to faint from theaters where multiply " the polyphonic ethno-concerts ".
Our desire thus is to make a friendly music, at hand, in which all can participate. Because the popular musics are not business of profession, it gave rhythm to the life, it animated(stimulated) the dance of the weekends, it punctuated the calendar, it was integral part of the everyday life and the seasonal worker.
Today we multiply the performances for a public mostly passive. Now, we forget the festive character of this musical expression. The traditional music has to carry some pleasure, she has to pass on an irresistible envy to sing, to move, unwind legs.
Because ,its most usual and the most natural frame, it is the feast!
Deux mois après la sortie de leur premier album « 10Y », le groupe Mary’s Dream crée un des événements de cette fin d’année en vous invitant à la soirée « Mary’s Dream@Home (Web Live Session) », le 17 Décembre 2009 à 20h50, un concert diffusé en direct sur le site Internet www.marysdreamtheband.com.
