   About Dorety Brothers
The Dorety Brothers music defies regular classification. It is all original music with an original approach. The best term to use might be progressive. That can be taken literally as modern progressive or thought of in the classic sense. The Dorety Brothers’ sound has been compared to early “progressive” bands like Yes and Genesis, but has been likened to pop bands as well, such as U2 and DEVO. Comparisons are unfair, as are classifications, because they do not tell the whole story. Listen and judge for yourself. For as the music continues, so too shall it evolve. The Dorety Brothers Band is not just a live version of the Dorety Brothers music but a combination of four people’s interpretation of a song. Whether a song was written by Chris or Art, Matt and John add their own sound and ideas. Since it’s inception, new music has been created within the band with Matt and John contributing their selves making it truly a band, not just an extension of one or two persons’ ideas. As things progress new music will continually be made and abilities will be pushed to their limits, because there will never be a lack of ideas and there is always something to learn. As far as the basic dynamics go in the band, it can definitely be said that Chris is the main writer. He has vast, past resources of his own ideas, lyrics and songs to draw upon as well as always having new ideas. Though an accomplished keyboard player, and bass player, he has been playing guitar and writing on guitar for years and has chosen that as his instrument for this band. His vocals and lyrics greatly define what the band is about. Art has played keyboards always and always will, even if it means there be two keyboard players in the band. Though also a writer of songs and instrumentals, that Chris often comes up with lyrics for, he finds a satisfaction in contributing to the ideas of the band as a whole. Creating your own part has it’s own rewards when you step back and look at the whole. Matt and John have been friends with the Doretys for years jamming in various formations and on various instruments. Matt is a bass player first and will always claim that saying he’s not a drummer. Well, after this long he is absolutely a drummer and quite accomplished at that. He brings a heavy, late 60s rock feel combined with a free jazz form that contributes perfectly with music that is outside the box. John is bass and enthusiasm incarnate. In fact there probably wouldn’t be a performing band if it were not for John. He plays in two or three other bands and is always looking for time to play. A solid sound and a solid friend, John’s continued exuberance and positive outlook fuels the band with an inexhaustible supply of support and encouragement. The band prefers to be judged by the individual listening to them, not by a reviewer or by some bio, like this. It is up to that individual to decide for there self and if it’s not their thing, well, that’s ok because we all see the world from different points of view. All we have to do is tolerate and respect those views and if you can do that, then you’re already more than half way there.

In the Baroque style of classical music, such as Bach or Vivaldi, each instrument played a melody that intertwined with the others instead of simply supporting a singer or a lead instrument. Lead Singer Syndrome has taken this concept and incorporated it into different styles of music.
