Dorota Miśkiewicz ::: a greatly talented singer, violinist, composer and songwriter.
She was born in a very musical Miśkiewicz family (her father – Henryk Miśkiewicz is a famous jazz saxophonist, Michał - her brother, is currently a drummer in the Tomasz Stańko Quartet).
Dorota is an alumni of the Music Academy of Warsaw (violin class). Being in high school, she started her first studio and television recordings.
Back in 1994, Dorota took the 2. place in a competition organized within "International meetings of Jazz Vocalists" in Zamość. Also in that year, she became a member of Włodzimierz Nahorny’s sextet, with whom she has made four albums (as a singer and a violinist).
She has worked with the biggest stars of music show-business: Tomasz Stańko, Nigel Kennedy, Grzegorz Turnau, Wojciech Młynarski, Ewa Bem, Jan "Ptaszyn" Wróblewski, Klaus Doldinger, Anna Maria Jopek (projects with Pat Matheny and Mino Cinelu), Janusz Strobel, Abel Korzeniowski, David Murray, Kepa Junkera are only some to mention.
2006 brought "Rogamar" disc containing en esclusive record of her duo with Casaria Evora. The album soon gained the gold status. Along with that, she got the so-called "ticket to the worldwide career", as she was the only Polish vocalist (after Kayah), who had been invited to record a song with "the Queen of the Green Cape Islands".
The artist, whose romantic, lirycal compositions are her trade mark, is known for her unusual, specific style and music expression balancing between jazz and more sophisticated pop. On her CDs you can find feminine, sensual ballads, delicate bossanovas, ethnic vibes, as well as sharper rock sounds.
Her elegance and modesty make her stand out from others. Being gentle in her music, sometimes she becomes wild on stage. As a charismatic performer, she catches contact with the audience like lightning, and her voice is as charming as she is herself.
The fact of releasing her album "Dorota Miśkiewicz Goes To Heaven – Zatrzymaj się" (nominated to Fryderyk Awards as a jazz album of the year) in 2002, made her seen as a composer and songwriter.
In October 2005, her next solo album – "Pod rzęsami" came out, this fact changed her life a little, bringing her quite big popularity.
After a long wait, on 22. September 2008 "Caminho" appeared at the music market. On her new album, Dorota mixes jazz with noble song, and her own unique style, accompanied by the rhythms of beloved Brazil…
"Caminho" means "a way". This strangely sounded title of her new product, draws our attention to Guello, the drummer who came to tape the material, specially from Sao Paulo. Brazilian approach to the rhythm gave a colour to all the songs, not only to sambas and bossanovas.
Noble, warm, and pleasant sounds, we owe not only to the producers, but also to the excellent musicians that accepted the invitations to take part in the project. On the disc we can find two beautiful duos – the first one together with Grzegorz Turnau, and the second one with Grzegorz Markowski. Furthermore, an outstanding pianist – Marcin Wasilewski, and a guitarist, co-composer, and co-producer in one person – Marek Napiórkowski, who participated in a few songs, are worth appreciation too.
