Bio
....Order "Calling" Online Now.. .... ............ ..Released September 14th 2007 in Ireland on IMC Records... .. .... .. ..Dorothy Murphy.. is a highly respected vocalist/composer on the contemporary jazz circuit in Ireland.Having studied in the classical tradition she then studied at Newpark Music Centre where she has been teaching for 8 years. Following an award presented by Music Network, Her debut album ..‘Calling’.. was recorded and released on the ..IMC label.. in 2007. In September 2007 Dorothy toured Ireland promoting her album, including an album launch at Crawdaddy in Dublin. .. Dorothy has performed on television and radio many times, the most recent being on Lyric FM in 2007, when she and her band, Circleways, were invited to perform live for station..... ..Current Projects .. .... ..Circleways..- Dorothy voice/accordian with Seán Óg –sop.sax/bass cl. and Claire Fitch- cello, Cormac OBrien- bass, Phil Macmullan –drums.... ..Voices.. - explorative , ‘create in the moment’ trio – with Tuula Voutilainen and Sue Brady..... ..Dorothy and Francesco..-a duo with Francesco Turrisi- piano. A potent infusion of original compositions influenced by contemporary jazz and classical music.......Veda..- with Dara O'Brien- sitar. Explorative improvisations using the pathways of jazz modes and eastern ragas..... ..Reviews...... ..“Like Bjork she creates soundscapes that are floating and ethereal so that traditional jazz devices acquire fresh contexts. Dorothy can exert great control of her voice while at the same time making it sound spontaneous, and her approach to improvisation is as much a percussive layer as it is melodic frontline. "....JMI 2008 .. .... .."Betrays the most divine kinship with Bjork".... Irish Times 2007.. .. -
