Dose of Adolescence has created an ever-evolving mélange of fast, entertaining classic punk rock beats, yet a bit more melodic than most. Dose’s music can be described as an ingenious compilation of aggressive and passionate punk rock in a song writing structure that differs from song to song. IN the absence of any booking agents, managers or even a promoter, Dose has sprinkled themselves throughout the country by means of two west coast tours, and one national tour. They have landed a spot on FUSE national television while touring in New York, and have had continuous airplay on numerous radio stations. Dose has self-produced one full length album which has sold over 2,000 copies, and two EPs that have sold over 3,500 copies combined, not to mention the thousands upon thousands the members have handed out.
Dose of Adolescence has shared the stage with the likes of major label bands, such as Rufio, Zebrahead, A Static Lullaby, Letter Kills, Jupiter Sunrise, Dogwood, A Thorn for Every Heart, The Hurt Process, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and were invited to and performer at the 2005 South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. Formed by Timmy Brown and Steve Madigan, Dose of Adolescence was created in early 2000 in the living room of brothers Timmy and Jimmy Brown. Throughout the next five years, Dose would pass through four drummers and finally reunite with their original drummer, John Gelbach. Jimmy would then complete the band as the bass player.
After six years, two CD burners, and hundreds of freezing cold nights standing outside of the venues handing out CD’s, Dose of Adolescence has played the music they love by independently booking shows and tours for listeners all over the country. The driving force behind their hard work and ambition being the goal of creating and playing music for millions of fans and living a life on the road.
In September of 2006, however, Dose was dealt with one of the most difficult obstacles of their career. Half of the members of Dose were victims of a car accident that left John Gelbach severely injured. The worst blow came when Steve Madigan, founding member and best friend, passed away a month later as a result of the accident. With heavy hearts, the remaining members of Dose made the decision, to proceed with their musical aspirations, yet armed with a new goal, to make sure the world knew who Steve Madigan was. After several months of physical therapy, John was back on his drums and Dose brought on board good friend and roadie, Roger Esparza to play bass, while Jimmy assumed the role of the lead singer.
In spite of the new line up, Dose was still faced with the emotional and difficult decision of finding a new member to assume the role of lead guitarist. After countless auditions, Dose seemed to be running into wall after wall unable to find an individual that they were prepared to announce as the new member of the band. Austin Sands, however, showed his dedication and passion for music by continuing to tryout and play with Dose even while they were performing with other individuals. Dose came to the realization that Austin’s determination and remarkable talent would assist in the continuation of their musical dreams. In addition, Dose realized that Austin was someone that Steve would have been proud of.
Now armed with the passionate momentum and dedication that has achieved their every fiber of success, along with the fervent promise made to a lost brother, this band will not cease to achieve their aspirations, exposing their lives with every song, and spreading a message they will live by forever, “Live Life, Stay Gold, or Die Trying”.
