Larry K. Doweary, aka Dot-Gates, was born Feb 1,1983 in the South Bronx. Like every kid born and raised in the projects, Gates had very big dreams for himself. However Gates did not grow up like every kid.
Gate's mother was blind since she was 5 yrs old and his father was also disabled. Gates is quoted saying "Conditions were not the best growing up but love got us through it." Growing up Gates used music as a way to entertain his family in the midst of troubles (see song "In My Blood"). "Everybody in my house was nice, my brother rapped, my sister rapped, if u weren't nice you would not get to spit".
Gates seemed like he was on the right path, until tragedy struck. In 2001 Gate's brother was murdered. Gate's family couldn't afford to give his brother a proper burial, so Gates and his older brother turned to the streets. "I couldn't let them just throw my brother in a box, so I did what I had to do." The only problem was after getting a taste of fast money, Gates couldn't quit. His go hard hustle mentality landed him in federal prision. "Everyone makes mistakes, my biggest mistake was neglecting my talent."
After the deaths of Gate's brother, mother, and sister, Gates did some soul searching and realized he was built for this rap game. Inspired by his guardian angels and his oldest brother (In the Feds), Gates is out to take the rap game by storm. "I just wanna reach out to the kids in the struggle. If I could just save one of them I feel I accomplished my purpose."
